Since Oliver had pretty much just arrived in the village, he hadn’t yet been assigned to any of the teams and thus didn’t have anything to do. So he’d decided to do something more or less useful and get himself acquainted with his surroundings. If Percy was right and he was going to be stuck in this place for a while, it was the only sensible thing to do; to try and settle in as best as he could.
The weather was nice enough for a walk, so Oli found himself just wandering around and taking in the place or at least what remained of the village. He was startled out of his thoughts by a girl that was sitting on the grass where he’d been walking. “Sorry,” he said, taking a few steps so he was no longer casting his shadow on her book. “I wasn’t paying attention,” he apologised.
She wasn’t anyone he immediately recognised, but whether that was because he’d never met her or just hadn’t met her at that age, Oliver couldn’t tell. She definitely didn’t look too pleased by his intrusion that much was clear. “I’m Oliver,” he introduced himself with a small smile. If she didn’t want to talk to him, she could always still tell him off. It was just that Oli always did better knowing the people around him and being the newcomer in the village made him feel a little uncomfortable.
