Greg's face stayed warm but he grinned after a moment. So he was an idiot who rambled because he didn't know how to talk to people. That's just how things were, and at least she didn't seem to be put off by it. He dropped back where he'd been sitting, stretching his legs out in front of him and shooting her a shy smile once he was down.
He hesitated at her question. Greg hadn't ever been much of a talker. He learned pretty young that when people asked things like how he was doing or whatever, they didn't really want answers. And maybe she was just being nice but really wanted to sit and enjoy the quiet. He wasn't sure, but he knew her from the books and figured maybe he didn't have to be so worried about it, about answering the wrong way. So after a second's pause he actually answered for real. "We didn't have no place like this where I was living," he said, gesturing at the lake and the trees. "I figure since no one really knows when they're gonna go back home, I should enjoy it while I can. Anyway, it's easier here. Easier than being with lots of people." He shrugged. "What about you?"
