Amelia had been a little later to the party, and looking around she noticed many faces were already bright with the signs of intoxication. She mildly scolded herself for missing out on all the fun, but at least she had managed to make it. After finding out that Susan was back and seeing the girl with her own eyes, something had finally settled inside Amelia for a while. For the first time in months she had actually fallen asleep and slept soundly, without the threat of nightmares or any other unpleasant experience. It was exactly why she had been so late, but at least she was well rested for once. Even the permanent shadows under her eyes had lessened greatly, much to her delight.
Wandering around into the crowd, she smiled brightly at those she knew but who were already deeply involved in conversations with others. She wasn't one to intrude, and once they were free she was always more than willing to speak with them later. But there was one face in particular she was searching for... perhaps hoping internally would show up. She tried to ignore that fact and pretend it wasn't so, besides, she would be happy with any interaction with another person honestly, but she couldn't help but wish it silently to herself anyway.
So, walking up to the drink table and grabbing herself something, she sipped on it occasionally before walking over to the fire and staring into the crackling flames. She stayed like that for a while, completely lost in thought until she felt a hand on her shoulder and jumped, tipping some of her drink onto her hand. "Sorry," she said, slightly embarrassed with herself. "My mind was somewhere else, as you obviously just witnessed."
