He knew who spoke before he glanced at the reflection in the mirror. It was odd to think she could read him so well even now. They were barely together in his time, but she had whole memories that made him easily readable to her. In one way it was comforting, but in another? It made him feel guilty. Why couldn't it be easy for them? Why couldn't he be who she needed? What his daughter needed for them? He thought of the kiss he shared with Fleur; he hadn't meant for it to happen and now he felt guilty, like he betrayed his family.
It wasn't the time to consider those things. The world was crashing around them. He needed to be strong. He turned from the sink to give her a small smile. "If they need me, I am ready." He shrugged. "Not that I will be daft about it," he said, "But...maybe. For the twins. For the people who have been good to me." He stepped forward a few paces to close the gap between them. "It will work out." He didn't sound convinced, but who could blame him?
