Al stiffened in a move quite unlike the normally affectionate young man. He was retreating into a dark space he was usually better at blocking out. Many, mostly those who didn't bother looking past appearances, thought he was just a happy go lucky boy bordering on naive and simplistic tendencies, but they were wrong. Albus Severus Potter chose to focus on the good, chose to be kind, and chose to see light where there was dark.
It was getting harder to do that the older he grew, especially when faced with monsters and the deaths of those he loved, but Al desperately wanted to hold onto that part of himself.
