WHO Wendelin Browne & Fleur Weasley
WHERE & WHEN Lakeside, Thursday afternoon.
WHAT Meeting another strong-willed woman.
RATING Low/Incomplete.
Since her run-in with the spiders, Wendelin had purposefully not come within healthy paces of the boats, though she still enjoyed the scenery of the lake. It eased her mind.
It was not that she felt un-free, or trapped as some others might, in the village. In fact, it was precisely the opposite. Here, she had the freedom to speak her mind and be heard. Here, she was not demeaned for being unwed or without child. Here, women were free to dress as they liked, and though she was still convincing herself to try on the more risqué things like denim shorts and tank tops, she relished in the feels of these new fabrics. She especially liked jeans. They were not restrictive, and she could run in them.
But Wendelin was not satisfied with simply wearing the clothes of a new person. She wanted to feel like a new person, to be a new person, to free herself from the dogma and oppression of the life that had trapped her in a cage since her birth.
This morning she had approached Godric Gryffindor and asked to borrow a bow and a set of arrows. She wanted to learn archery, which would have been forbidden in her world, simply because of her sex. And she had rejected the offer of a lesson — she would teach herself. And so now with a fierce-looking bow in her hands, she pulled an arrow from the quiver on her back. Aiming at a mark she had carved with magic into one of the trees, she took a breath to be still, pulled back, and fired.
