Who: Amelia Bones and Gideon Prewett
What: Dinner and conversation
Where: Amelia's place
When: Thursday, July 11
Rating: PG?
If Amelia told anyone she was fine recently, it would have been complete bullshit. But thankfully, the question of how she was doing rarely came up, and when it did she had little to say in response. Because the truth was she still really didn't know how she was doing, only that she was managing to finally get herself out of bed everyday. It was hard, but she still had to remember that she had a family here, and others who cared about her. It broke her heart that the one person she really wanted she would never, ever have or see again, but it was one of those things that she was trying to come to terms with and get over. Or maybe she was just avoiding it, either way, the pain had been reduced to a numbness within her that unless poked at, stayed mostly dormant.
So gathering herself together after making a fool of herself several times, she had managed to ask Gideon to dinner at her place to thank him for putting up with her. He had tried to comfort her when Teddy initially left, and she did nothing more than throw his kind words back in his face. And then he made an effort to console her once again, or at the very least make sure she was okay, when she was completely inebriated. That time she really felt foolish.
So when Thursday finally arrived, Amelia managed to get to her office for a tiny bit before deciding she didn't want to be there anymore and headed for the store. Picking up ingredients for her dinner, she returned home and began to prepare the food for later that evening. After marinating and stuffing the pork chops she intended for that night with bacon and gouda cheese, she began to work on the hand mashed garlic potatoes and fresh mixed vegetables. And of course, dessert probably took her the longest. After searching her recipe books for almost two hours the day before, she had finally come across a delicious and deadly chocolate brownie cake with fudge frosting. So she probably went a little overboard on his request, but she had managed to incorporate three out of his four requests into their dessert. And of course she had vanilla ice cream stashed away to serve with it. What kind of a girl would she be if she didn't?
By the time everything was either already prepared or in the oven, she barely had enough time to run upstairs, shower, dry her messy hair, and put on a decent simple dress before heading back downstairs. The house was filled with the aroma of food and flowers, and she had to lean in the doorway of her kitchen and smile a bit to herself. She hadn't cooked like this in a while, and honestly it felt good to do so again.
Walking over to her fridge, she pulled out an already chilled bottle of wine and uncorked it to pour herself a glass. Taking a small sip, she waited patiently for Gideon to arrive while checking on various foods being kept warm in her oven. When she heard a knock, she carefully set down her glass and walked to her door, opening it with the best smile she could. "I hope you brought that bib, because you're going to need it."
