Walburga could not argue with Alphard's statement. They had gained nothing from their sacrifice. They would lose everything. The line ended even with all their trying. She lost her brother. It was her own doing. The future was not a place that she wished to be at all.
When Alphard lifted his arm, Walburga moved closer, wrapping her arms loosely around her brother's waist. She was quiet for a moment. "Shhh." She glanced up at him quietly, trying to think of what to say. "I know you did. If you had not, I would have noticed." And she would have. She wondered how she could have missed it. Perhaps she just had ignored everything. In fact, she was sure she had. "We will figure it all out." There was a brief pause before she added, "Together." Because she wasn't leaving Alphard ever again. Nothing could make her. He was her brother and she felt much better being close to him. "I missed you."
