Alphard was concerned. No, more than that, he was terrified. Ever since Alphard had been returned to his proper age, he feared this day would come. He kept his distance from his sister because it allowed him to hold out hope. She had claimed they would be family no matter what, but he worried this would be far too much for her to deal with. He had played along their entire lives and now he'd gone and ripped the rug right out from under them. This was entirely new territory for him and he was left floundering in its wake. Whenever things took a turn, regardless whether it be for better or worse, he was left disoriented. He was not prepared for this. He didn't have any answers for her. He didn't even have them for himself. Gods, and he was making himself sick with this.
Approaching her house, he was reminded of the brief period of time the two of them had lived here. Things had been wonderful. He had missed his sister these past few years. Ever since she had married, there had been a hole in his life, a piece of him missing. As much as he reveled in his freedoms, he missed her. He had her here, but even that had been destroyed. He just hoped it was repairable. Taking several deep breaths, he straightened his back and decided if he couldn't actually be courageous here, he would at least feign it. What else was there left to do? Everything had been said. He would have to deal with it and hope for the best even if that scared the hell out of him.
