Scorpius finally looked up, brow furrowed. "Isn't that exactly the reason we ought to rush? We don't know how long we'll be here, and supposedly what happens here doesn't have any effect on what happens back home. Whoever I marry, she'll still be there, and she'll still be mum to my kids in twenty years, but I could be with someone else entirely here."
Just like his dad could. Which really wasn't where Scor's mind wanted to go, after the way he'd sworn Dad and Al's mum were flirting.
"I don't know my own future," he said, because that was the big difference, right? "And I keep doing the same things here I would've been doing back home, but I'm not sure they have any meaning here. It seems like this is the sort of place where we ought to--"
And he stopped, right there, because what he was going to say would almost give permission for his parents to be with other people. And he didn't want that. Not at all.
