Mike & Summer WHO: Michael Corner & Summer Capper WHERE: Parking in the Rear WHEN: Saturday night WHAT: Mike is trying to come clean. RATING: PG
Michael Corner spent years getting over Summer. The irony was not lost on him considering he was the one who walked out on their engagement without a word. At the time, Mike thought he was doing her a favour. She needed a clean break. She loved a man who could never devote himself to her. Yet, Mike never cheated on her during their relationship. He never wanted to step out on her either. She was a bloody beautiful, kind, understanding, and smart woman. He was the lucky one, but she was the one giving into a life that could only end in heartache. Mike still thought his father never remarried due to a broken heart. Even when Dad told Mike he only remained single so that no one could treat his son as unwanted baggage, Mike held fast that Dad was making excuses. Of course, Dad was sad. Of course, Dad never married because of Mike's bitch of a mum. Mike saw only the failed relationship.
He lost everything because of his tunnel vision. He still didn't quite see it that way though. He wasn't meeting Summer to tell her any of that. No, he was meeting her only to remind her he left because he was a jerk, nothing more. It was true, wasn't it? Finding out he married Megan, another sweet, understanding, and kind Huffelpuff just rubbed salt in the wound. Why did he cave? How? How could he hurt people he loved? Oh, he didn't love Megan yet, but he knew he would and that was enough to make him feel guilty for their future.
The sad thing is that he still loved Summer as he sat there waiting for her to arrive. Clearly, in only a year into his future at home, something changed and he fell for Megan, but Mike knew, now, Summer still held his heart. He didn't just get over her when he left. He busied himself with work and a slew of women, but he still loved her.
If it wasn't enough to love Summer, how could it be enough with Megan?
