Who: Scorpius and Lily Malfoy What: Things and stuff. When: Saturday night Where: Their cottage Rating: TBD Status: Incomplete
It really had been a hell of a week. Scorpius' head was still spinning. The past seven days had been perhaps the most trying he had ever spent in this village. Everything and everyone who mattered to him had changed with the recent flux of magic. The things he had been confident in, he no longer was. All at once, Scorpius had found himself without a father, without a best mate, and with an entirely different relationship with his girlfriend. Or was she his wife? He liked the sound of wife even though he reckoned most twenty year old's would run screaming from such a commitment. Scorpius had never been like most people though. All head and no heart was something he was constantly accused of, but the past week had forced the latter out of him. What made it even more difficult for him was the fact that as many times as his heart had been pushed to the forefront he hadn't really had anyone to turn to. His father as he knew him was gone. His best friend was more like his son now. And Lily ....
Scorpius loved Lily. He loved any version of Lily. He just didn't know where he stood with this version of her. The years between them seemed to hold her back from him, something that hurt more than he would care to admit. He tried to be fair about it. Were their situations reversed, he would have undoubtedly done the same. Lily was used to a different person entirely. She had not seen this version of him in some years. Decades even. Scorpius missed her though. He missed their rambling conversations and their easy intimacy. He missed being able to surprise her by coming up behind her, or stealing a kiss, or any of the things they used to do. He knew he probably wasn't making it any easier. He had been so flustered this past week which, in his language, meant quiet. Closed off. Impossible to reach. Little things had bothered him more than they ought to have and he had taken to dealing with it by intensely focusing on one thing or person. Usually it was Polaris or Albus or even Draco. Last night his nerves had only been settled after having ice cream with his father and speaking to Ernie. Admittedly, his walk with Lily had done wonders as well but his nerves had relatively settled by then.
Cressida was right though. He was a bit stupid when it came to his emotions and how to deal with them. He always applied logic and reason to things instead of just allowing himself to feel. He tried to dictate reason where reason might not necessarily apply. He was so tightly wound and apparently it showed, something he found deeply unsettling. He just felt helpless. The world was out of his control. There was nothing to hold on to and he was floundering. There was one thing he could control though. He might not be able to help the fact that his darling baby girl had grown up literally overnight. He might not be able to help that his best mate was a child and his father was a first year. But he could help his relationship with Lily. He could work on that, fix that, try to get things back to how they were. It was what brought him to the door of her bedroom after Polaris had gone out, a cup of tea cradled in his hands. He knocked gently, giving her a moment before pushing the door open. Merlin, she was beautiful. Lily had always been beautiful, of course, but he couldn't help marveling at it every time he saw her now. How he had gotten so lucky was beyond him. Clearly he had done something right. Perhaps it was the universes way of apologizing for the judgement and teasing he had suffered in his youth?
"I brought you tea." he offered in a quiet voice, after taking a moment to look at her. He hadn't bothered to hide the fact that he was doing so either which was a first considering he spent most days trying to respectful and let her set the pace. He missed her though. It was a desperate ache in his chest that twisted and clawed between each beat of his heart. He missed her something fierce and he needed to fix it.
