Eighteen hours. That was how long Victoire had been in active labour. She hadn't managed much sleep the night before, and since early morning, she'd been trying to keep her mind busy while her body decided to act completely out of her control. The contractions were coming every four minutes now and lasted for nearly a full minute each time, but they hadn't progressed beyond that in hours, and Victoire was mentally and physically exhausted and ready for the baby to be born.
She'd taken to pacing around the room even during contractions, hoping that the walking would help move things along. As it was, she'd only let her parents, Teddy, and Teddy's parents into the room, but they were all good company, even if things with Teddy were still painfully awkward (and heartbreaking if she let herself think about it too much, but she did her best not to). She had kicked everyone but Teddy out for dinner though, insisting they take a break and go eat. Chances were good the baby wouldn't be making an appearance for several more hours, so they might as well get in a bit of a breather while they could.
In the meantime, she continued her paced waddle as she rubbed her belly, wishing the baby would hurry up. "I'm going to call her a Weasley Lupin," she said to Teddy as she circled the room once more. "Not because - not because I'm upset, but because she deserves to belong to as many families as she can in this place. I know everyone will support her regardless, but her having my family's name, too...it feels right, with everything's so mixed up. And everyone will know exactly where she belongs even if they don't know who she is yet. I'm staying a Lupin though," she added, her eyes focused on the ground in front of her, or at least the part of it she could see. She swallowed tightly. "I know you're - I know it's never going to...but that's who I am no matter what happens here."
