Teddy was a bit of a nervous wreck. It’s not that he didn’t… love Victoire, but it was all different. She would still have a place in his heart, she was his best friend, his future wife and the mother of his three healthy, happy children. But he was madly in love with Amelia, and he wasn’t going to drop all of that and pretend it didn’t exist just because Victoire returned. He’d done a fairly good job at avoiding her parents after the last sort of uncomfortable mess with Vic when she was here last, and it made him nervous to meet her at their house, as if Bill would pop out and hex him at any minute.
It didn’t help that he had a lot that he had to explain to her. He had their entire future stored in his head (well, until their youngest son was five anyway), and his relationship with Amelia. He had to tell her about the things that would be obvious when meeting him, the fact that he now had nasty looking scars, pale white, the jagged outline of bite marks on his right arm and shoulder, the peaked out from under the sleeve of his shirt no matter how he’d tried to conceal it.
Chewing his lip, he’d spotted Victoire on the porch. He ran a hand through his hair, and the color twitched nervously as her moved up the stairs. “Hey, V!” He greeted her with a smile that didn’t quite make it to his eyes. His heart was thudding, and his palms were a bit sweaty. Immediately, he knew there was something off about her, just by the way she was sitting, but he didn’t draw attention to it. “How are you handling it all so far?” He sighed, stalling the inevitable.
