The gesture reminded her so much of her 'real' father at home that it nearly made her eyes well up. As it was, she blinked hard and smiled slightly. "It seems to me that this place isn't the most reliable as far as longevity goes, so if you really want to consider it, you and Maman should talk about it."
Victoire shook her head as she ambled down the street. It was a lovely little place, frightening as it was to be somewhere new without the benefit of having decided to go there herself. But having her parents there helped, and the knot in her chest, the one that had been there since she'd first realised things weren't right, began to loosen. "I can't imagine what Maman went through, losing you like that. I'm glad you two have each other. It's as it should be. Now you just have to get to work on making me," she teased.
