"Oh, no, you really ought to," said Victoire. "I'd be using them too if I could get away with it. No use for you and Maman not to get any sleep, really. Though hopefully that's still a week or two away."
Leaning against her father for support, she eased herself down the steps and started down the road. She knew better than to go as fast as she could in order to make things easier on him; she'd learned that lesson over a month ago. Slow and steady was best right now, with her ankles as swollen as they were and her back aching.
"Oh, she was? That must've been hard on her," she said with a frown as she concentrated on each step. At least Teddy was here; she couldn't imagine what she'd do if he wasn't. Uncertain of what else to say to that, she finally added, "Have you thought about having one of us here then?"
