Victoire's head was spinning with all that had happened in the past hour. She'd been napping on the couch, waiting for Teddy to get home from work, when all of the sudden she'd arrived in this strange village. None of it made sense, even with a magical explanation, and try as she may, she still couldn't make head or tails of it. She tried though, or at least she pretended she did; she was upset enough as it was, and expressing it would only make things worse.
She ran her hand over her massive belly, wincing as the baby kicked. How was she supposed to explain this to her parents, who apparently didn't even have her yet? How was she supposed to explain this to Teddy?
And what was going on with Teddy? No one seemed to want to explain, and the more time that passed, the more her chest ached with worry. Had something happened to him? Was he different somehow? Could this place make you different? Why did everyone seem to appear and disappear at random? And worse, what if she disappeared and left the baby behind?
Her worries were interrupted with the sound of a knock, the door opening, and finally her father's voice. Try as she did to keep herself under control, her eyes watered and a lump formed in her throat.
"Daddy?" she called from the living room, and she struggled to stand up off the couch. "I'm in here."
