Caradoc had been friends with Lily from his very first year at Hogwarts and yet, all the while, he'd had absolutely no idea that any of this was going on in her life. He didn't know about Petunia and her parents and the troubles they had. Caradoc didn't think her parents truly preferred one daughter over the other, but he remembered how his own siblings had reacted to his magic. Jealousy and longing had driven them to push him out. He remembered crying while his mum held him and promised it would all be okay. The difference seemed to be that Caradoc had mended the bridge with his siblings. They had both come around and made it work. It was devastatingly sad that the same could not be said of the Evans sisters.
"You're special too. Magic doesn't make people special. Plenty of people have magic and plenty of people don't. You're special too. Just in different ways." he murmured insistently in response, hoping to make her see. Wrapping his arms tightly around her when she stepped closer, he pressed his lips to her temple, her forehead. "It's okay. It's okay. I'll keep hugging you until you can." he murmured against her hair line, rubbing her back and murmuring softly to her. "You're lovely and nice" he returned the sentiment to her, "and clever and creative." he continued, going over his list one more time as his hand smoothed over her back to comfort her and his lips brushed the crown of her head as he spoke.
