It was funny how quickly he had forgotten that his other nephew was staying here. While his nieces and nephews were always near the forefront of his mind, the fact that Regulus was taking up room with his sister had fallen through the cracks. Given everything that had happened recently though, it was understandable. Alphard's mind was scattered, psyche worn thin in the wake of trying to comprehend and overcome his own emotions. It was rather difficult to do given the complexities not only of them, but of the situation at hand. Walburga had not yet disowned him, but she would. Was it okay to be so angry with her when she had yet to do it? It was a chicken and the egg situation and Alphard had yet to find his way out.
With Regulus right there in front of him though, it all came rushing back. Much like the other man, Alphard had to take a moment as his eyes settled on his nephew. Regulus was smaller than Sirius. Tall and thin and most definitely a Black. It was all too easy to see the bits of him that were his sister and the bits that were his cousin. "Regulus." his name came out in a breath, lips pulling up in a small but warm smile. He may not have known Regulus before now, but he loved him all the same. After all, he was Walburga's son. He was his nephew and though Alphard was surely disowned in his time, that would not change.
"I should apologize. I had forgotten you were staying here. I hope I didn't startle you." he said, stepping further into the room. His eyes, of course, remained fixed on Regulus, drinking him in as he stood there. "Ah, look at you, the perfect combination of your parents, you are." Alphard said in an affectionate tone, shaking his head a bit. "I trust you are doing better than when you first arrived?" Merlin, this was strange, but in the most wonderful sort of way.
