If he was 'Uncle Sev' to Draco, wouldn't that make Draco's children his Great Niece and Great Nephew? He wondered if these two new Malfoys would be just as pleased by the title of 'Great' as the first one he'd ever met. After all, Lucius's ego was almost legendary, at least at one time. The second war damaged it rather severely, at least as far as Severus could see, but it had been a grand beast for many years before then.
For his part, Severus normally didn't care to do things 'spur of the moment'. Had he had enough time to plan, he would have made most everything himself, perhaps even tried his hand at pastries. As it was, he'd gotten contacted by Draco late in the day on Friday and barely had time to get groceries and go to the bakery.
Because improved as everything was getting between them again, Severus still felt as though he walked on egg-shells a little bit. When Draco had told him to 'cancel his plans' quite literally moments after he'd made some rather important ones, he'd been worried another row would result. Thankfully Draco's happy excitement and Lorcan's unusual sleep cycle made everything easy.
So it was that Severus now found himself at Draco's doorstep, freshly groomed and looking as good as possible for him. He'd told Draco he was going to wear robes, and he had done, but they were nice ones in a deep, dark green rather than his ordinary black brewing robes. Over his arms, he carried several heavily laden bags containing eggs, cheese, a wide selection of vegs to go into omelets, bakery fresh bread, a variety of jams - two of which he'd made himself shortly after he arrived at the village, pastries, breakfast meats and a veritable cornucopia of fresh fruit.
It was possible that he may have gone a little over-board. Then again, this was Draco. This was meeting Draco's children. Severus didn't know how to do anything half-arsed. He was pleased and honoured to be invited to meet them and he wanted to do everything he could to make the introductions flow smoothly.
Merlin knew his general personality wasn't likely to do him any favours. He was actually quite nervous.
Hands too full to be able to knock, Severus tapped the bottom of the door lightly with the toe of his boot.
