To say Amelia had been hysterical for the last two hours would be an understatement. She had arrived home from work to the door standing wide open. At first, she figured Myrtle might have left it open for some air or to go outside for a moment, but as she looked around the house she realized she was very incorrect.
For one, Wilson was downstairs on the couch cleaning his feathers. Something he never did, at least not outside of the privacy of her bedroom. For another thing, a coffee table, several dining room chairs, and a lamp were on the floor. The lamp was in pieces. Toys were scattered everywhere, both her Macaw's and Kosmo's and after thorough searching of everywhere she could think of, the puppy was no where to be found.
After interrogating and flicking her bird for almost half an hour, he finally squawked, "It was a mad escape! Mad escape!" before going back to his business and ignoring Amelia like it wasn't a huge deal. Angry, annoyed, and panicking, Amelia threw on her coat and went outside to search for some long amount of time, maybe two hours or more. By the time darkness started to fall and colder weather started to creep in, she had made it back to her house in tears and barely able to breathe.
Even the thought of seeing Teddy finally didn't do much to cheer her up. So she sat on her front steps, head in her knees as she waited for him to arrive. The entire time she sat there, she continued to beat herself up for being so stupid and careless with her pets. If she couldn't even keep track of them, how could she keep track of anything else important?
