Who: Rogue and Spidey
What: Fighting a giant spider
When: Thursday
Where: A bit of distance away from the townhouses
Warnings: Violence likely
This was hardly the first end of the world and everything’s going to hell type of situation Rogue had faced. But it didn’t mean that it made things any easier. Maybe she was a little calmer for it but there was a constant niggling feeling that things were only going to get worse and it didn’t help any that she kept seeing things that weren’t there. She really, really hated that. Things she could touch and punch were so much easier to deal with because there was no fighting something that wasn’t there.
She shook her head and slowly breathed out, trying to shift her focus from what she couldn’t do to what she could. No use in dwelling on what you couldn’t control, she knew that and was taught as much by the Professor and Ororo. The thought of them made her chest ache something fierce but Rogue quickly stamped down that line of thought. If there was no time for wishing the creepy hallucinations of kids and people would go away, there sure wasn’t any time to miss the people from back home. She had enough on her plate as it was, never mind any emotional junk that still persistently lingered. She was patrolling and that was something she could do.
Rogue’s hand moved to reach for her radio to check in with the others but sudden movement from the corner of her eye made her pause. It was probably another of those freaky kids or whatever the hell else the fog was tricking her into seeing but rather than disappear when she turned to get a better look, it got slightly clearer. Two large, thick and hairy things came into view. Rogue barely had time to register them as legs before the rest of it came barreling forward right at her.
Rogue ran head on rather than away and at the last second dropped down and slid on her side, effectively dodging the sharp pincers aimed at her as she slid underneath the giant thing. It was a long way and when she was back up on her feet, she finally saw the seriously oversized spider in all its hideous glory. Well she had been hoping for something to punch but the spider kept on moving regardless of missing her and Rogue’s stomach sank when she remembered she wasn’t all that far away from the town houses.
She flew up into the air and dived bombed the giant bug, landing a blow on its backside. The spider shuddered and its legs twitched but it didn’t fall or stop. Oh come on.
