Tachikoma and Eliot Spencer
Tachikoma and Eliot Spencer, UTR-verse... Well, A very AU-UTR-verse.
"This is where the princess lives!"
"Hey! Do you want to make a mote?"
Eliot watched from his beach chair while Tach and Riley ran in circles around their sand castle, digging a mote with their feet. He leaned back, taking a drink of his beer. This is the life, he thought, closing his eyes and listening to the girls' giggles.
"Look what I brought," Tach said, pulling a small, plastic flag out of her bag. "A flag for the castle!"
"And it's yellow!" Riley said happily. Yellow was her very favorite color. She took the flag when Tach handed it to her. "We should put it on the princess' tower, because when she grows up she's gonna be queen and the whole castle will be hers."
"That's a good idea," Tach said, nodding in approval. Then, in a conspiratorial whisper she added, "Plus the princess' tower is the prettiest."
"Daddy!" Riley yelled, waving excitedly to Eliot. "Come look!"
Eliot smiled, putting down his beer and managing to stand up from the folding chair that threatened to collapse at the slightest breeze. He chuckled a little as he walked down the beach to his girls. His eyebrows raised and he gave a low whistle of approval as he surveyed their work. The sand castle was pretty damn impressive. Knowing Tach, it was probably modeled on some real-life historical keep, with every last detail included. "Well, that's gotta be the best sand castle I've ever seen," he told his daughter, placing his hand on her shoulder.
Riley grinned up at Eliot, hugging him around the waist. She was really happy here. At first she had been worried that her mom wasn't here, but she felt safe now. She'd never been to the beach before, and she was having so much fun. "Look, Daddy, that's where I live," she said, pointing at the princess tower."
Eliot pointed to the closest tower. "Then I'd better live right there, because I want to see you all the time."
Tach was kneeling on the ground and tipped her head back to look up at Eliot, smiling. "It's Urquhart Castle," she told him. "From the 13th century."
Eliot smirked a bit, leaning down to kiss Tach lightly on the lips. Totally chaste, nothing too steamy in front of the kid. Still, that didn't stop Riley from wrinkling up her face and saying "Eww, cooties!"
"No cooties," Tach reassured the girl. "When you get married, they give you a cooties shot so you can't get it from your husband or wife," she said, very matter-of-factly. Riley looked relieved. She didn't want any more visits to the hospital.
Just then, a big wave came in. When the cold water rushed over her ankles and knees, Riley squealed. Eliot scooped her up, tossing her over his shoulder, giggling and squirming. Tach stood up, but not fast enough to avoid getting soaked. Eliot smirked, having no complaints there.
"Oh no!" Riley called from her upside down position. "The castle!" The wave had almost flattened it. It was just a mound of sand.
Eliot put Riley down, rightside up. "I'm sorry, sweetheart." What did you say to a kid when her first sandcastle was destroyed? It certainly hadn't come up during his childhood. "Wanna build another one? I'll help this time."
Riley shook her head, bending over to sift through the sand. "We gotta find the princess flag!" Tach was already on her knees looking for the little piece of plastic. She was really good with kids, especially Riley. And again, Eliot couldn't complain about the view.
Eliot joined them on the ground, venturing toward the shoreline. After a few minutes, his fingers wrapped around the hard plastic. "Found it!" he called, standing up.
He was rewarded with the tight hugs of a very happy eight-year-old, and a kiss on the cheek from a beautiful bikini-clad woman who had been crazy enough to marry him. Together, they left the beach with a yellow princess flag and some great memories.
