Since plans for overthrowing the Iraqi regime had been in the making since the beginning of 2001, the not so subtle shift of focus from Afghanistan to Iraq wasn't that big of a surprise. The timing and the approach, however, didn't sit well with National Security.
Claiming that Iraq had or intended to make more Weapons of Mass Destruction and had links to Al-Qaeda hadn't been the smartest course of action, seeing how there wasn't much evidence to back those claims up. However, they were out in the public now and if nothing else, they made great news headlines.
Fear would grant them the support of the people and even more liberties than they'd already gained.
Regardless of whether Jamie, Ryan and Enola liked the situation or not made no difference. The government wanted that desert country, wanted the black glistening, viscous treasure that was hiding beneath tons of golden grains of sand.
The government wanted a war and it would get its war.
The polished surface of the conference table was buried under charts and open files which contained all relevant information the three deities needed to assess the situation and to decide which line to adopt.
"The ruling party is adamant on making this happen as soon as possible," National Security said, folding his hands on the table and looked at Enola and Ryan. "So 'no' is not an option. Question now is how fast can we beat enough order into this mess to prevent it from becoming a total clusterfuck."
Jamie was sure that no matter how carefully they planned, it wouldn't run as smoothly as GOP and its boys club imagined it to be. Wars didn't work like that...
