National Security
1. The concept of National Security wasn’t my first choice actually. What I originally had in mind was Totalitarianism. The idea manifested during a lecture about how America - corporate and political - has been shaping and controlling the minds, desires and needs of the people since the 1930s.
For example, corporate America shaping the desires of its consumers; after 9/11, the Patriot Act, Guantanamo and one-sided media coverage are all sources of power for it. I'm also thinking of biometric passports, finger-print and retina scans at airports, chipping of employees, recording phone calls with or without users' consent, satelite technology, camera surveillance at subway stations and big cities - all of those are powerful tools of control and that's what I think it is all about. Obsessive ordering, structuring, being in control while making people think that it's all being done for their own good. Wiith Jess' help the idea of Totalitarianism turned into National Security who fits the criteria but on a broader and less radical scale.
2. He’s not afraid of making tough decisions in order to preserve or improve the status quo.
3. He’s too caught up in his obsession with high levels of organisation, orderliness and too focused on ‘the greater good’ to care about single individuals. The American people exists as a single, homogeneous entity in his mind. That it consists of millions of lives with different needs and ideals and dreams is inconsequential.
4. It varies but generally speaking he doesn’t give me headaches. Sometimes I wonder if I’m taking it to far, at other times I wonder if I couldn’t take it a step farther. However, since FG follows RL events rather closely, he’s tied to what goes on in the real world and it’s probably better that way.
5. This log captures quite well of what he is capable if he could do as he pleased. There are also bits and pieces scattered across his journal entries - private notes - which I’m rather fond of.
6. The past year has been quite turbulent. Rise of the Democratic Party, budget cuts, change of plans/ideas/approaches regarding domestic affairs and the wars the US is involved in, living with Nuclear Power and raising Chaos Theory with her, his involvement with Ares - all of that has shaken up and disrupted his the established routines in his neat life more than just a little. I like to think that he’s changed/evolved/made progress because of that. When the world changes, he has no choice but to change with it, and I’m not sure where it’ll lead but I think his attachments will ultimately weaken him and bring him down. And then another version will take his place.
