Oedipus: A Oedipus - A 1. Oedipus is a strange cookie. His story is so odd, and very different from most heroes in the Greek story-telling. I had looked over the idea before, and wasn’t sure based on the fact that with Achilles I already have some dominant muses going on, Greek hero, etc. When the Sphinx was picked up, I kept reading up and it just felt like another challenge to tackle---something I probably would never, ever go for. 2.Despite what he’s been through, he is a strong character. He has some rough edges, but peeking out of the world that’s been made for him is interesting to see. It gives him a little more umph. 3. His curiosity. Oedipus’ damn curiosity killed the cat. He HAS to know it all, even when he knows the consequences can turn out rather sticky and gross. 4. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character 5. The Sphinx and Oedipus log really helped me bring him out, and these two narratives really started to help me bridge between Oedipus from the past and Oedipus from today. 6. When I first created Oedipus, it was my idea to grow him from the hermit that he’d become. I felt like overtime, Freud and others had congealed him into this guy that even he didn’t quite get. Since his 'saving' of Antigone in game it kind of released that 'adventurous' and 'kingly' side of him, reminding him of who he was before. As it stands, Oedipus doesn't really 'have' any phobias at all. He's no 'crazy', but more or less has become a product of what doctor's and psychologists have made him---therefore he doesn't necessarily act out in ways that seem like someone who does have phobias. It's all in his head, when in reality he's quite sane despite what he's been through. So the 'hermit' phase I put him through is just that, a phase. It was built to bring him out of it and in becoming more of the person he was before. I hope the more he continues to explore his self again he’ll become more adventurous, spunky, aggressive and not so cocooned in his shell.
