1) 1920's: Working in a speakeasy in Atlanta with Jo! Was arrested when the operation was raided and shut down, but was released not long afterward. 2) Victorian Era (1837 - 1901): Was brought through the so-called Golden Door with the masses of Irish immigrants that came to America in the early 19th century. She suffered much of the persecution of the time, living in the "Irish town" bit of Philadelphia in a shanty and working as a chamber maid in a hotel. The vicious attitude toward the Irish threw her for a serious loop and she struggled for years with her relocation, trying to get on her feet and stop mourning. She spent most of the Victorian era in a haze. She went South after a while and wound up in Atlanta, and found herself as a nurse when the Civil War broke out. Went by Molly Maguire during this particular phase, until she fled back North and settled in Boston for a while. 3) 1960's: Being a hippie, natch. She was a beatnik in the 50s (possibly meeting up with Jo again), but in the 60s she worked her way across the U.S. to finally settle in San Francisco. She was there for the Summer of Love. The hippie counterculture appealed to her, as her whole first century in America had been filled with heartbreak and violence. Free love was a pretty appealing concept to her. 4) Two months before they arrived in NYC: Studying biology at Bethany College in West Virginia and finishing her bachelor's degree. Studying butterflies in her spare time. Reading a lot of Nabokov (whom she considers a kindred spirit).
