Hello everyone, after a flurry of behind the scenes emails and planning, there is an exciting bit of news coming from the Di Omnes Nocti crowd.
On Thursday from 12:01 to 12:21 in the afternoon Erebos is going to raise the mists of Erebos and cause a black out; effectively, he’ll be blocking out the sunlight by drawing the mists between the city and the sky with the help of Aether, the Upper Air, and blanketing all major sources of light with the same mists -- bottom line, New York City will be in total darkness for twenty minutes. Electronic devices still work, of course, Erebos isn’t and couldn’t effect power, but the light from screens (cell phone, computer, television) will al be muted as well the points of light too small for Erebos to manage such as flashlights and candles; imagine a flashlight in the middle of pristine wilderness, that beam of light? Doesn’t seem to go all that far, in fact, it sometimes seems like the dark is just absorbing the light…
Part of the darkness is also going to be sounds; Erebos is the primordial dark, he is everything which humans have always feared about the darkness, so there are going to be ambient sounds amplified as well as sounds of things moving around, unseen in the blackness, some unlikely folks can have those things brush up against them. Khaos, the Middle Air, is going to be layering his chaos effect with her son’s darkness, so things are going to get seriously weird. Which, naturally, brings me to the point of all this: Erebos family (the unpleasant ones, at least) are going to get a huge boost of power and advantage from this dark. Tactically, Night’s brood is familiar with Daddy, his nature and his mists in a way that no one else is (though Underworld denizens could certainly find it familiar) and have the edge in functioning in perfect blackness. But Erebos' power is also going to be spread out in the shadows and go to his and grandkids to supplement their strength with his own, he is doing this for them, to give an edge to whatever plans they have (those that plan) or just add fuel for those who feed off chaos and mayhem (why hello Maniae). Dark gods, underworld deities, etc. who don’t belong to the family? Won’t benefit in the slightest – sorry, guys! Those that aren’t freaked out by shadows that don’t feel like their shadows are more than welcome to use the black out as cover for their own ends, but they won’t have any of the advantages of the Di Nocti.
The Family will be getting a tip off tomorrow, telling them to be ready and to be in place for the show, everyone else… have fun! It’s only twenty minutes and then the mists roll back, lightbulbs work, the sun shines and the city gets to deal with the aftermath of it’s impromptu journey back to the beginning. Any questions, I’ll be happy to try and answer, although the Di Nocti are all going about their business during this in… a whole variety of ways, so it really depends. Anyone who would like to thread with Erebos, he’s literally going to be everywhere during this – the cost of such a thorough black out is his corporal form; he’s going to be the mist and after twenty minutes he’s descending down into the Underworld until he has enough strength to create another body.
All right, I think that’s about it. The narrative for the fun will be up on Thursday to kick off events!
