Greenmarket
Who: Inari Ōkami, Open
What:Outdoor Farmers Market
Where:Union Square, NYC
When:Last weeks of Summer
Union Square is once again a hub of activity as summer draws to its peak and starts descending into Autumn. Farmers from all over the state come to the Greenmarket to sell their goods. Including the Naoki family who sell Japanese specific goods, tokens, and offerings for Inari. The family's store, located in Chinatown, and also serves as their home, is where Inari works during the day. In summer and while the weather permits it, he takes their more popular items to the Greenmarket and sells and trades with the locals. Because of the economy, many worshipers are turning away from their worldly idols and returning to the gods. Inari is feeling the power trickle in more than normal, and to promote even more awareness, he sells charms that will bring prosperity. The tags are made of wood and shaped like fox heads. Long strings with hundreds of colorful handmade origami cranes hang on the sides of his booth to bring luck and peace. His two mischievous Kitsune have taken the form of dogs and are exploring the market freely, drawing in customers to Inari's tent on the Asian side of the square.
