"Good, I wouldn't want you to tax yourself." Tommy murmured in return, tilting his head back just slightly toward Bret's hand and then sighing quietly in disappointment as it slid away. Yes, it wouldn't take much for Bret to have his lap full of affectionate godling, but Tommy wasn't going to do anything rash, even though he was definitely feeling a bit more likely to say or do something silly; he supposed that was the fault of the small amount of alcohol he'd imbibed, however.
Snuggling just a bit closer to Bret, Tommy laughed slightly. "You know, that's a dangerous thing to say. I can go through all the positive effects legalization would have, point by point, go through every minority group that's negatively affected by continued prohibition, from the religious groups who view cannabis as a sacrament to the comparatively higher rates of African Americans being arrested for possession... and I can dismantle every argument against it, from that absurd theory that marijuana is a gateway drug to the thought that marijuana use will soar come legalization. But, yeah, whenever we get some free time, I'd love to babble at you about it. Who knows? Maybe afterward, you might be convinced to register with the Marijuana Party or at least vote for them, if, you know, they ever manage to get a candidate on a ballot."
Tommy nudged Bret lightly, looking over at his boyfriend. "How many more times do I have to bl-" Okay, yes, the small amount of alcohol Tommy had consumed was making his tongue a bit looser; Tommy blushed lightly before amending what he had been going to say. "-babble at you before I convince you to register, hmm?" Instead of thinking about it too hard, Tommy turned back to Paul, willing the blush to recede. "Public speaking? Yeah, I can see how that would be a bit frightening but... you did just perform in front of an adoring crowd, right? I think that if you can do that, you'll excel in your public speaking course."
Tommy was going to have to get better at it eventually, if he wanted to be able to lobby for his party. "And Latin definitely sounds interesting, I've been meaning to dive into foreign language study myself. Trouble is, there are at least four languages that I should learn, so choosing one to focus on first is going to be difficult." Tommy tilted his head slightly; he was starting to get a hang of this whole having a normal conversation thing. It was just a matter of asking questions and being interested in the response and, well, he found Paul very interesting. "Are there any clubs or societies at NYU that look like they could catch your interest? I've been looking at a few of Columbia's, although some of them meet while I'm in class."
