Bret smirked, twirling his straw around in his glass and glancing over at Tommy. "Sure," he nodded. "I could be compelled to do that." If only because he felt bad for the awkward position that he put Tommy in. But he really did believe in honesty and keeping the lines of communication open. With something like this, he just felt that everyone should be kept up to date with what was going on. Luckily, Paul came in to save the day.
"Oh geeze, no-" he laughed softly. "Definitely not right away or anything! I mean... it was never more than a," he trailed, trying to think of the right way to phrase, "you know, a 'maybe eventually' sort of thing." He shrugged and took a sip of his drink, acting effortlessly casual about it. "And it was my crazy idea in the first place so I don't want anyone to feel..." he looked between the two of them, "uncomfortable or pressured or anything. It's supposed to fun. If it's not there, it's not there and there's really no hard feelings or anything. But who better to have a good time with than your two best friends, though!"
Paul looked down at his rum and Coke, which looked exactly like Bret's Coke, and casually switched his with Tommy's drink, grinning a little over at the slightly younger male. "Better?" he asked, biting his lower lip a little.
Bret still had that pleased smile on his face - sitting back and playing with his straw while Paul talked. He knew Tommy was nervous, but maybe if he knew that it wasn't something that was going to happen soon - that they were going to give him more than enough time to think about it, change his mind, change his mind again and eventually adjust to the situation (wasn't that how things like this usually went) before anything happened. "Even if it happens six months from now..." Bret started.
"That would make an incredible Valentine's Day," Paul laughed, sliding a hand through his hair and leaning back in his chair.
Bret's eyebrows lifted and he shrugged, motioning towards Paul, "There's that."
"Thank you, though," Paul added, leaning towards Tommy and smiling at him. "It's the first time since high school I've sung in front of people. So it was totally nerve-wracking and I'm glad it didn't show."
