Who: Elena Torres, Eddie Carlson (NPC) Where: The cult's temple When: Saturday morning What: Two mortals, talking about the gods
Eddie had been hanging around the temple almost constantly since he'd met Coyote. It didn't surprise Elena, but it did amuse her. She remembered what it had been like the first time she'd met Tezcatlipoca. Even before she'd loved him, she had been obsessed with him. He'd been everything mysterious and powerful and wonderful about the world, about her beliefs, and she'd been desperate to see more of him. It had been a bit like an addiction, one she'd fallen into entirely willingly.
Eddie seemed to be headed down a similar path, and Elena felt oddly excited about the possibility of watching it happen.
Of course, that depended on what Coyote decided in regards to Eddie. There was still the possibility that the god would choose not to take Eddie as a priest, and Elena could tell that it was bothering Eddie more than he wanted to admit. He was pacing through the sanctuary where the altars to the Aztecs were set up, stopping every once in a while in front of Quetzalcoatl's altar and staring.
"You'll probably meet him, if you go over to Coyote's place," Elena said, coming to stand next to him.
"What's he like?" Eddie asked, hands in his pockets.
"Quetzalcoatl?" Elena smiled a little. "Old. Not physically, but when he's not trying to pretend that he's human, he's obviously much, much older than he looks. But he's also very nice." Eddie said nothing, still staring at the serpentine patterns along the altar, and Elena added, "All of the Aztecs are nice, you know. As long as you play by their rules and don't go out of your way to offend them, they're easy to get along with. It was a relief to find that out. Before, I was afraid I'd meet them and they'd turn out to be insufferable, and then where would I be?"
"I want to be able to say that," Eddie said, smiling. "I want to be able to say 'Oh, yeah, Bear's great at pool' or talk about Coyote's favorite foods, or..." He sighed. "It's all I've been thinking about, and what if he shoots me down, Torres? What do I do after that?"
"It hasn't happened yet," Elena said, resting a hand on his shoulder. "I think he liked you. I think you have a good chance."
"So you won't mind if I shapeshift and sniff you in inappropriate places?" Eddie asked, his expression somewhere between a leer and a grin.
Elena rolled her eyes. "Go see him this weekend, niƱo, and then you can stop lurking around here like a lonely puppy."
"Hmph, I'm not that much younger than you," Eddie sniffed. He looked at her curiously. "So, hey. I've been reading up on Tezcatlipoca."
Elena winced a little at his pronunciation, but nodded. "And?"
"He's a lot like Coyote. How come you never ended up as a nagual?"
Elena shrugged. "He didn't make me the offer, and I wasn't willing to ask. The fact that Coyote didn't reject you straight off is a good sign, Eddie." She leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek, then patted his shoulder. "Now stop being a coward and get over there."
