WHO: Nephthys & Set
WHEN: Saturday morning
WHERE: Las Vegas
WHAT: It's finally showdown time.
WARNINGS: Violence, language, tba

The comment had come that Set had been found, or at least somewhat tracked, in Nevada. As soon as Nephthys had word of that she left her current location in Arizona and made her way to Las Vegas in the hopes of finding her errant husband there.

She moved quickly and on a rented motorbike - much faster than by foot and easier to sense others than by car - carrying a near-empty duffel bag with her. All she needed was the nearest hint of him, the slightest scent on the breeze, that shiver that slid up her spine when she felt him. (Of course, it wasn't quite the same now. She'd not seen him since he'd changed but she knew that he would not feel like her husband, even if she feared that a part of him would. But a part she could kill and she was prepared to do that when they all finally came to face him.)

When the sunset on Nephthys first night in the city, neon lights kept the world bright. It was difficult for a goddess of darkness and night to find comfort in a city that seemingly had neither within its limits.

It was the Saturday morning she felt him and for a few moments she didn't trust herself. But moving closer to the source she knew she was right, and when Nephthys reached the extravagant hotel the sun was lighting the city in morning gold. The warm light of day, as though her sister stood at her back.

The plan had been to tell the others, but Set would move before that happened. Nephthys couldn't allow them to lose him again and, in a way, she wanted to confront Set alone. (Perhaps despite her bravado, Nephthys wanted to see, truly, if there was anything left of her husband in this demon.)

Bag in hand Nephthys made her way upstairs, following the jolting sense that was somewhat Set but also part of the Other. At this hour it was likely that Set was sleeping, which meant she had a chance to corner him before he could run - if that would even be his choice - and at the room she didn't knock. Instead she kicked the door in, easily enough strength in her to do that, and entered without pause, drawing from the bag one of the two khopesh blades, both of them taken from the wall of Set's apartment.

Something was coming. Even in his sleeping state, he could feel it. Something familiar was drawing near, but he wasn't fully registering him. The part that was Set was keeping the Other asleep, secretly glad of this confrontation. The Set inside the cage was Tired. So Tired.

He stirred only lightly when Nepthhys entered the building, one arm casually around his morta's waist. he'd spend most of the night enjoying her company and the funny looks she gave him when he'd introduced Isfet.

When the door slammed open he rose, blinking into the sun, "Didn't order roomservice." It took all those seconds to recognize who it was and he smirked. "Hello wife." This was Set but not Set. The look in his eyes was not the look he usually had. The Demon was well in charge. And didn't seem to plan on going anywhere.

He raised an eyebrow at the weapons, "hey those are mine." Before rising from the bed and slinging pants on, cracking his knuckles. "Oh yeah, this'll be fun. Cara, love. Be good and take Isfet. I think me and the woman need to have a talk."

A grin, so different from the usual Set gave, "careful sugar, you're going to cut yourself with those."

Cara was no god, had felt no stirrings, and thus the first she felt of anything was the bang of the door and now Set telling her to get out. Cara, looking at the pissed off goddess standing there, didn't need to be told twice. She jumped from the bed, grabbing her nightgown from the ground and the weird-ass platypus and ran for the door, sure that Nephthys was going to cut her down as she went.

Nephthys was still as the mortal darted past, no interest in her. Her only movement was to close the door behind her, drawing the second blade and throwing it across the room, letting it land near him on the bed.

"Pick it up," Nephthys said coldly, turning the khopesh in her own hand, catching the morning sun creeping through the window.

"You missed." With that he leaned down, eemingly to pick up the blade. One hand curled around the hilt while the other grabbed for the gun he'd put beside the bed. Quickly he rose, firing two rounds at the figure before closing with the blade, making a wide slash at her throat. It was more distraction then truly wanting to get at her. Keeping her on her toes was vital.

And he might have just woken up, but that didn't mean he wouldn't cheat his ass off. Neither of the Eyes had expected it.

But then again, this was his wife.

A gun. She'd expected such a weapon brought against her, although she hadn't known Set would have it in his bed. But Nephthys was already on her guard the moment she'd stepped in here, and she dodged the badly-aimed shots and then curved herself out of the way of the blade.

At the same time she turned, slashing for her husband's hand as she did to make him drop the gun. She wanted them on equal footing, sword-bearing enemies on a field of war, even if she wasn't the sands of Egypt. "You're so predictable," she sneered. "But I know your mind, even now."

The blade slid through his hand and he growled as the gun was dropped. "Son of a bitch!" Vigorously he shook his hand, almost uncaring about the injury. He thought himself on top on the world, undefeatable (and with the death of two vengeance goddesses under his belt who could blame him?) Part of him didn't want to kill Nephthys, but that part wasn't available at the moment.

"Am I now? Gun being fired in a place like this? Scared mortal out there, freaking out? gonna draw attention wifey. Did you count on that? Mortals will get involved. I'd say you don't have that long. Picked the wrong time, wrong place." With an almost insane laugh he pointed the blade to her. "I got time baby, plenty of time. Out of the cage now, no putting me back. I suggest you run, or be quick about it. Don't worry luv. It won't hurt...much."

He always did like hearing himself talk.

"Will you still be wagging that tongue of yours while I'm cutting it off?" she asked, not choosing to slow down at all and instead drawing the khopesh down quickly, slashing for his chest and then his throat without pause.

Nephthys knew mortals would come, were probably already on their way, but she also knew that they wouldn't stop her now, now when she'd found Set finally. She would kill any mortal that tried to stop this and she would do it without regret, and if they came with guns and shot them both? Well, better the both of them dead than Set leaving here without her.

She had already left behind her the gentle goddess of death that others so often saw and here, in this room with Set, she had become the battlefield goddess that the Pharaoh had been lucky to have at his side. Even her eyes, usually honey-warm, had taken on the dangerous black of the falcon.

Icon distraction....

He was going to laugh, but he'd almost missed the kopesh slashing down at him. Quickly, he brought his own up, stopping it bare inches before his throat. The cut on his chest hurt, but he bit back the pain.

No use distracting her. She seemed focused on her task. He reeled back his fist, aiming to punch her away from him. He needed the space to formulate his next plan of attack. He was bleeding too much already and hadn't even landed a strike on her.

Yeah, take that, Set!

Nephthys felt the blow and her head flew back, but the pain was a thing she needed to fight. With a growl she flew at him again, moving faster than she thought she was capable of any more. (In San Fransisco the coven knew she needed their strength and they - along with Andres - had been praying and offering since this began.)

He'd bloodied her nose and she could taste in on her lips, but somehow that only urged her onwards. She had no desire for witty banter, no wish to hear her own voice. All she wanted was this creature dead and out of her husband.

She hadn't truly used a sword for centuries and yet this morning nothing felt more natural than the swing of the khopesh in her hand.

She was moving faster then he remembered. Even he had issues keeping up with her. Since Hathor had almost devastated his Temple, the only direct worship he'd been having came from Cara.

Obviously it hadn't been the same for her. He was on the defense, and badly too. He knew she was pushing him into a corner, which wasn't good for anyone. Least of all him.

Set's weakness - surprising and relieving - didn't slow her. Nephthys wanted to mock him on some level, to ask if this was how he expected it to end, if he had expected her to be the one to come for him. But except for her breathing and the strike her her sword against his she was silent.

She was backing him up and with growing confidence she knew she would win this.

He felt the wall hit his back and grit his teeth. It was harder to defend herself from her attacks like this.

It wasn't long before he felt the Kopesh sting his hand and felt the blade fall from his fingers. He snarled, panting as he looked at her. "You're not winning you now. Just stalling. Nothing will get accomplished with this. Nothing.

Nephthys slammed her elbow up into his nose and then pressed the blade hard against his throat, drawing a thin line of blood. His words were those of a desperate man, one who knew he had reached the end.

"Any final words, demon?"

"You aren't going to win little pet. No Sun-father to save anyone this time." With a harsh laugh he pressed forward, feeling the blade cut into his throat.

As a final mindfuck, the eyes cleared. The demon had retreated, for a moment, to let the wife and husband meet. Nothing as good as a good old kick in the heart. Set did not hesitate and went to grab her wrist, pressing it forward.

"Glad it was you." A smile, true of that of Set. Not the Demon. "Not long. Freezer." He pressed her forward, needing this to be finished. Prayed she knew what he was talking about.

Trembling fingers touched her cheek. "Sorry."

Nephthys felt only a moment of pain when her husband surfaced. Her own eyes were locked on his as he spoke and then, just once, she nodded. She was glad it was her as well. It seemed only right. She couldn't hold back, couldn't stop to tell him that she loved him, even though it was the only words that waited behind her lips. She hoped he knew, hoped he understood she did this for him as much as the rest of them.

And then with one last burst of strength she drove the blade through her husband's neck, tendons and muscles giving way in a gush of blood, spine snapping through after another moment and leaving the sword embedded in the wall.

The head fell free and the body of Nephthys' beloved dropped slowly to the carpet. It was the head she grabbed by the hair, not even looking at it. (She couldn't yet. She couldn't yet think because she wasn't finished here.)

She was drenched in blood, most of it Set's, and from the freezer - just as Set had told her - she took the second head, the one that was far further along in its decomposition and defiled in every way their brother could manage.

Into the bag it went as well - Nephthys felt only a passing uneasiness at putting them together.

She hoisted the bag over her shoulder and made for the door but as soon as she pulled it open, the mortal girl who'd been told to run threw herself at her with a scream, fingernails like claws and her shrieks unintelligible.

"I have no time," Nephthys snapped and then simply knocked the girl unconscious, picking her up, almost tenderly. Nephthys didn't need her to go running back to Apep to tell him what had happened here. She hadn't had time for the girl, so when security showed up she had no time for that either.

The spell she used took the last of her strength and made the girl in her arms so much heavier. She whispered the words in the ancient tongue, letting the corridor of the hotel throw itself into a sandstorm that would only last long enough for her to run away.

And run she did.
