WHO: Briseis & Achilles
WHEN: Tuesday night
WHERE: Achilles' apartment
WHAT: It's a wee lover's tiff.
On Sunday night Briseis had slept alone in the apartment she shared with her boyfriend and it wasn't until Monday morning that David returned, looking like he'd been walking the streets the whole night. Briseis, in honesty, hasn't slept much more than he had though.
The talking between them was long and painful but in the end it came down to one simple fact: The two of them loved each other too much to let one mistake destroy everything they had. Briseis admitted her lingering feelings for Achilles, and David asked her not to act on them. It was something of an uncomfortable truce and she spent the next days walking on eggshells around him.
Briseis knew that she had to find a way to tell David the truth about herself, but it was as difficult as she'd told Kenneth it would be. Not only was it something inexplicable but it meant - when he found out - that he would know what a huge thing she had been keeping from him all these years. Damn it, all she had wanted here was a normal life!
So when she returned home from working on Tuesday evening, the words David started speaking first caught her completely off guard. I talked to Adrianus today... seriously think he's like the reincarnation of Achilles or something like that... trying to make it sound like you were Briseis from the Iliad... says I don't even know you... like you guys are some epic Greek romance or something... complete nutter... what the fuck, Bri?
She didn't even know what to say. Achilles had told David the truth that she hadn't been in any way ready to tell yet. And - as she'd suspected - David didn't believe a word of it, but it still hurt to know of the betrayal of her trust that had happened.
Briseis was furious as she ran up the stairs to Achilles' apartment, almost shaking with the rage at it all. She thumped on the door with her fist heavily, demanding that he be home to deal with this right now.
