Somehow, she had also managed to balance, on the tray, a plate of the caprese salad for herself, as well as several slices of Hazel's bread for the soup. She leaned to tear off a piece of a slice, taking a small, polite nibble. She sipped her tea once more, then set it down, leaning back in her chair after forking a piece of tomato, mozzarella and basil, chewing thoughtfully and quietly.
When she was done, she continued. "I would certainly hope we are the only they have had contact with," she hesitated, mind painting a brief picture of the monster of a younger one in the family who she had that unfortunate plight of... meeting. Shaking the subsequent possible scenarios running through her mind, she settled her eyes on Oscar, her eyes alight at the mention of their sister's name. "Charlotte? It is so unfortunate that I have not seen her in some time." She mused, though was happy to hear Ophelia enjoyed Laudanum's company. "Laudanum was always so good at soothing the children..."
She trailed off as her brother remarked on her appearance. "Oh, yes. Winter is often a busy time for me at the clinic. Pain that people suffer intensifies in the cold. I have several new patients, a new branch of Seturner opened in North Dakota, and..." she paused, hesitated, watching her brother, wondering if she should tell him of her soldier's return to her. It dawned on her in that moment that she had only shared this with Hazel, and it might remain so. "... An old friend came back to me, Oscar."
