Who: Rhea (serves_stones) & Zeus (rules_them_all)
What: A conversation of sorts.
Where: NYC
When: Saturday
Warnings: None.
Words were not really necessary. Knowing that everything she would say had already crossed his mind, Rhea contented herself with studying her youngest who sat across from her. His inaction was curious, puzzling.
When had he become so hesitant? When had he begun to prefer this over acting?
Curious and puzzling.
A thousand different scenarios ran through his head, all of which were discarded the moment they entered his mind. Here under her steady gaze he was not a king. At least he didn’t feel like one. Never had when Rhea was around and that much to his chagrin had still not changed.
“Do you remember what I said about negligence?”
“Yes.”
“Do you finally understand what I meant?”
“Yes.”
“How does it feel?”
His brows furrowed and she smiled.
“You were never like him except for that one moment when paranoia took over and even then you weren’t, no, don’t interrupt me.” Rhea lifted a hand to stop Zeus from speaking. “Is this what time has turned you into or is this what you’ve always been? Has the loneliness at the top caught up with you and paralysed you?
“Stand tall, keep your back straight. You’re the one who got away, remember? Don’t fear. Don’t doubt.” She rose from her seat and buttoned up her coat. “Or you will lose their faith.” Her hand settled lightly on his shoulder. “And right now, it doesn’t look like you can afford to lose any more ground than you already have thanks to your little temper tantrum last year. Think some more if you must but not too long,” Rhea added and leant down to whisper, “Unless, of course, you do not intend to win this time. Everybody gets tired. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
Even after she left, he didn’t move for a long time.
