There was a BB-gun in his son's hands and a Stetson on his head. Given those two developments, plus the growing train track system complete with cowboys and Indians assembling on either side of the cars, and a certain fear of the look on Laura's face when she came out of the kitchen and discovered the new toy gun, Jesse decided that it was time for he and Guns to retreat out onto the apartment's balcony with a bottle of bourbon and two quality cigars. He wasn't going to make the possible situation with Laura worse by actually daring to smoke in the house.
"Listen, Scamp, I'll show you how to load that thing up later this week. I'm sticking the ammo in my office, all right?" Jesse said to Frank after grabbing the bottle of liquor from the cabinet. It didn't appear that Frank really cared whether the gun was loaded or not. He was already holding the thing as if it was a new puppy or kitten. He only nodded before running off to flop down on his stomach with his trains and figurines surrounding him. He laid the BB-Gun down next to everything just as carefully as he'd been holding it.
Smirking, Jesse turned back to Guns and picked two glass tumblers up out of the cabinet. "You just made one seven year old damn happy," he said, laughing underneath his breath. "And kept me from getting into trouble to boot. It's a gift from his 'Uncle Michael', I doubt Laura's goin' to snatch that away from him." He nodded towards the balcony doors, still grinning. As much as Mary adored Bonnie, Frank stared up at Guns like he was some sort of God whenever he came around to visit and, of course, he was. Jesse suspected that this latest gift had only cemented Guns' place in Frank's world of adult idols.
"Glad you could finally come 'round." They stepped out into the cooler night air and Jesse placed everything down on a glass table between two chairs. "Guess you've been busy."
