"Man, talk about 'big' city. We don't have anything back home like this, no sirree. It's just cornfields and tractors all the way to the high hills and to the low of the valleys. Damn, you know what Ray would say 'bout all this? He would say this city's probably just enough to satisfy his own libi--"
"You're rambling."
Nike looked away from observing the surroundings of the campus to shoot her companion a look, one she had given him at least three times in the last ten minutes. It wasn't a look of annoyance, it was more like reminding Jared that he was rambling. Again. And that if he kept talking, well, eventually he was going to annoy her. And he knew how she got when she was annoyed. The tall blond haired man looked sheepishly back at her, hand immediately rubbing against the back of his head, his own tell tale sign of embarrassment.
"Oh. Yeah, uh, sorry, Sarge. Just, we don't get this stuff at home, is all I'm saying. With the whole nature thin--yeah, okay, shutting up now."
She smiled inwardly to herself as Jared got the message by yet another look before the two of them stepped into a Thai food restaurant, one that Athena had mentioned. Nike, herself, wasn't a food expert, since she pretty much stuck by a simple diet of olives and bread for the most part, sticking with the most traditional of Greek meals. Therefore, she was slightly at loss to know what to expect, although the aroma in the place was already quite overwhelming.
"So, your friend. You said she's a..."
"Librarian." Nike wasn't surprised to see a blank look given right back to her. She had anticipated it as well as Athena did, which was why Nike had hoped her old friend had a good background story planned out for the two of them.
"It's not impossible to befriend one, you know," was her response, which earned her another blank stare.
Hopefully Athena would arrive soon to save her from telling stories. She was never good at telling lies anyways.
