Who: Andjelija, Pscipolnitsa
What: An afternoon's entertainment
Where: A street not far from Central Park
When: Wednesday afternoon
With the warmer weather fast approaching, busking season is underway. At least for those who have the luxury to choose not to deal with the winter cold. As such, there is the occasional crowd gathered here and there, watching the more entertaining of the performers.
One such crowd, a little larger than the others, is mostly made up of men, if one were so inclined to notice such things. At first glance, the person being paid all of this attention doesn't look all that special; attractive, certainly, but New York is full of beautiful women, and this one is even dressed somewhat conservatively, in a long flowing skirt and a peasant blouse. But if you watch, even for a few seconds, you'll begin to understand why.
It's her voice, most assume, and she does have a lovely rich and lilting tone, even if the words she sings aren't in English, but that's not quite it. She's happy to have people think it is, of course. Those who might be familiar with such charms will be able to tell it's more the accompanying dancing she does, graceful and light, almost as if she's floating but her bare feet are definitely on the ground.
Feel free to join the crowd, or even attempt to get her to stop. The basket she's set out for tips is practically full as it is.
