Who: Adam and Eve
Where: A cafe near Adam's apartment
When: 8 o'clock in the morning
Warnings: Um... really awkward conversation?
To say that Adam was nervous would be an understatement. It wasn't every day he met up with the wife he hadn't seen in countless mortal years, after all. Okay, it was something he'd done before, but that didn't make it any less nerve-wracking. What if she wouldn't want to see him, what if things didn't work out, what if what if what if... He spent a solid half-hour in front of his closet trying to decide what would be appropriate to wear.
After settling on simple black slacks and matching blazer over a pale green shirt (no tie, though, he avoided those when it could be helped), Adam set out for the cafe he'd told her to meet him at. The walk in the chill morning air helped to clear his head somewhat, and by the time he reached the shop he was almost entirely calm. The line at the counter was only a few people deep at this time of morning -- everyone else headed to Starbucks for their on-the-run fix, but this was more a place to sit and leisurely enjoy one's beverage. Ordering a coffee for himself and fixing it up with plenty of milk and sugar, Adam found a table in the corner.
Okay, here goes nothing. You're just meeting her again after decades apart. No big deal, you can do this. She wouldn't have agreed to meet if she didn't want to see you. Calm down. His inner monologue continued as he sat down in the chair against the wall, in order to keep an eye on the people coming and going. He'd arrived early, which in retrospect wasn't necessarily a good thing. Now the minutes were dragging onward endlessly, which was utterly ridiculous. What were a few more minutes in an eternal life?
