who Dorabdh, Upsilon
what Dora wants potions.
when Sunday, late evening BACKDATED
where Hospital
rating low?

It hadn't been an easy day. Waking up, she'd almost expected the compound to be a dream. Which was deja vu because she'd had the same experience her first day here as well, months back. But no, she was still here, still twenty-five, and still had the memory of walking into that bedroom along with the dual memories of her 15 year old self in this place. She was walking a hair-thin tightrope of emotion and it barely took more than a feather to tip her to either side.

It was easier, though not easy, when she was with other people. Shopping with Jayne for clothes had been alright. Seeing her family and people who were long-gone but still alive here had at least been distracting enough that she wasn't able to stop and think for very long. That didn't mean she hadn't broken down a few times, but it wasn't incapacitating her. Until night fell. There wasn't much to distract her with most people sleeping, and she was left alone with her thoughts. Her hands shook and her heart started to race before she remembered Tau's potions from the night before. She'd slept and woken without any ill effects (much better than the amount of liquor it would take the achieve the same) and she wanted more. Anything to get her out of her own mind so she could get some rest and go through it all again tomorrow.

After jotting a quick note and being directed to the hospital wing, she moved quickly. The faster she got the potion the faster she would have relief. It was a shame she couldn't brew her own, but this would be faster than attempting to gather the ingredients. An assistant shuttled her into one of the rooms and shut the door, and Dora was alone again while she waited for the doctor. Desperate for something, anything, to do, she started examining her fingernails for rough patches she could worry at.

Dora swallowed hard, her mouth suddenly dry as her heart started pounding again. She fought it down with a clenched jaw and steady breaths that she tried to keep inaudible, keeping her eyes on Upsilon the whole time to see if she noticed, hoping she wouldn't.

"Four- maybe five- times from the holding cell to my room? And twice more in my bathroom." She wasn't sure what to blame those on, as it didn't seem like any of the other people had been ill thanks to the double memories. She'd felt the nausea rising a bit before she'd even come back, before she'd set foot in her bedroom at home, actually. But it was decidedly worse as she'd remembered the people she left behind here.

Looking up at the clock in the room, she counted backward. "Around 9, so I guess not quite three hours ago?" It had tasted like dirt, but she'd eaten it.

There was a slight change in Dora's bodylanguage, but not enough to make Upsilon concerned. She'd made a science of reading people, it had come in handy in the unit before coming to the compound. She didn't give any indication that she'd noticed, just kept making notes on the chart.

It was possible that the nausea was a side effect of the process that brought them here. It would be the first time but there had always been an idea that it might cause that. Upsilon kept making notes. "Ate and was able to keep it down..." Licking her lips. "Were you feeling like this before you were brought here? Back home?" The answers to these questions were important. Especially if she was jittery. An external cause or an internal one?

"Um," her voice quavered noticeably even with the short syllable, and she bit it off immediately. Her chin quivered as she fought her emotions, looking up at the ceiling to keep the tears that were pooling in her eyes from falling. Just one question- had she been feeling like this at home- and her mind oh-so-helpfully began replaying the other night. And she couldn't even stop it. The sound her purse had made as it thwacked into the door had muffled the noise at first, so that the scent of the lit candles had been her first clue. She could even smell the sandalwood now, in the compound. She'd thought it was a surprise planned for her, and then she'd heard the girlish giggle. Then the moan. That was when the nausea had started. Her heart had dropped into her stomach and her stomach didn't welcome the intrusion.

"I-" Again a short syllable, but her voice still shook and even squeaked up an octave, and she pressed a shaking fist to her mouth. This had been a bad idea.

And that's when she saw it. There was a complete shift. The carefully held control that Dora had been cultivating seemed to be falling. In fact there was no seemed about it, it was.

They symptoms she was showing at that moment, seemed to suggest this was something other than a medical problem... at least not directly. Upsilon's face softened, she paused for a moment, trying to give Dora a moment to relax, to calm down if she could. "It's alright," she said gently. "You'll feel better if you let it out..."

"I don't want to let it out," Dora spat, the anger in her words a front to protect herself even as the tears began flowing freely. She wasn't like Jayne, she didn't cry prettily. No, when Dora was really upset, her features twisted unrecognizably.

"I just need something so I can sleep and do this all over again tomorrow." It was too exhausting to bottle up everything for the sake of everyone else and not sleep. Something had to give, and it wasn't going to be hiding her emotions. And she realized yelling at the doctor wasn't likely to make her receptive to giving her a sleeping draught, but she wasn't really in her right mind at the moment. Showing this kind of weakness to someone else felt almost worse than the moment she'd opened the door to see Tad and that groupie.

Upsilon didn't like what she was hearing. Emotional turmoil could have unfortunate physical effects. To be less technical, being wound up like it seemed Dora was could cause the lack of sleep, appetite, the nausea...

Upsilon just nodded, sitting there waiting for her to stop screaming, though if that was what it took it was worth it. She reached behind her and handed Dora a box of tissues, thinking that she might need them. While she didn't know exactly what was bothering her (she hadn't had a chance to review her updated history), it was powerful. "I can give you something for tonight," she said it. There was more to it of course, but she wanted to see what happened before she told her the rest. She was not going to let Dora become dependent on the draughts. It wasn't healthy.

Taking a few of the tissues with a barely audible 'thanks', Dora wiped at her cheeks haphazardly before balling the paper in her fist. She was crying half because she was angry, and crying in front of Upsilon was making her angrier, which was making her cry more. It was a never-ending circle, but she forced herself to calm back down again.

Her thumb pressed into the knot of tissues in her fast, rolling it against her palm back and forth, back and forth. She kept her eyes on that, focusing on the movement to keep herself calmer. When the doctor finally said she was going to get a potion, Dora nodded, keeping her eyes on her hand. "Thank you. That's all I wanted."
