Who: Fred, Molly, and Arthur Weasleycolour
When: 3 November
Where: On the pier
What: Fred and Molly try to come up with a good explanation for this
Death was one of those secrets that wouldn't stay shut. Even if this time it had been Fred who spilled his own death rather than George or someone unwittingly. Although, he supposed his own spill had only been because he had been so caught up rowing with Charlie, as careless as Percy's twins telling him. But it didn't help that it hadn't been meant to harm. Fred had never wanted Arthur to know, just like he hadn't wanted Molly to know when she came. He'd lasted a good bit longer with Mum.
He supposed if he'd been Bill or someone he could have smoothed over the slip of the quill with a lie that it was melodrama, but Fred Weasley had a bit of a history with hiding things, and perhaps just as long of one at getting caught in trouble. But as hard as it had been growing up incorrigible, it was a lot easier explaining why he'd lit Ron's hair on fire than telling a parent that soon in the future they didn't know. And it was a lot easier to handle a howler or parental wrath than that look. Charlie had been giving it to him, Mum still did when she thought he wasn't looking, and now Dad would too.
Fred wasn't cold, but he grabbed a sweater. George's jumper that he had brought with him six months ago when he'd arrived here. He'd been wearing it a lot since George left, and he needed the extra strength. Fred walked towards the pier and sat on it, letting his legs dangle over the water. He was closer to the compound than not to meet his parents, Mum's comment reminding him that he was still convalescing. That even made it worse. It was funny, when he learned he died, he had wanted Arthur more than anyone, taking more after his father with his tinkering than his mother, but now he really wasn't looking forward to seeing him.
