It was so, so difficult for Narcissa to connect with her alternate-world son. Not because she wasn't trying-- her selfish personal desires were to connect with everyone here who actually cared about her, whatever their reasons were for caring-- but she was completely inexperienced in this business of being a mother and Draco was not what she would have expected a child of hers to be like. In terms of the family she had here, it had been much easier to connect with Betelgeuse, who was very like her sister, and Rodolphus, who (aside from his strange fixation with her) was very much like the brother-in-law she'd known, and Arayna Lestrange, who was very like a mixture of Narcissa herself and Bellatrix, her mother.
But she felt protective of him nevertheless, perhaps all the more so for the fact that he seemed to make incredibly reckless and obviously dangerous decisions, and he was protective of her, so there was something there. It would have to suffice for now, until they figured out a better way to be around each other. At the least, having him over for tea kept him away from the plant that was talking to him. It seemed obvious to Narcissa that a plant offering him his heart's deepest desires was far too dangerous to listen to, but she supposed there might be more bewitchment at work than that. It clearly had known precisely what to say to motivate him, therefore it was probably for the best that he be away from it.
So she had invited him over for tea. Her Mogwai, Themis, was sitting obediently in the corner listening to music; she kept an eye on it as she prepared the tea (which she would have liked to have her 'elf' do, except that risked getting it wet), making sure he was staying in place. He moved once, and she immediately turned off the music, then turned it back on again when Themis sat back down. It was a strange little creature, but its company was not entirely unpleasant, at least not when it was on its best behavior.
She set the tea service on the table in front of Draco, and then took the seat opposite him, gracefully lifting her cup to her lips to blow gently before taking a small sip. After she set it down, she looked at her son. "Are you finding it difficult to be here?" she asked. "It seems as though there are many things you're wishing for."
