Who: James & Sirius (knap)
What: shouting. Then hopefully snuggles. :|
When: Monday night.
Where: Sirius' room.
Warnings: ldfjldl :|

James was angry. He had been furiously, lividly angry for over twenty-four hours now. Angry at the scientists for bringing Rodolphus Lestrange here, even more enraged at Lestrange himself for existing at all, and angry at the situation this had put them all in. Perhaps even more than anything else, he was outraged that being the voice of reason and advocating teamwork and playing their cards carefully so that they could take Lestrange down once and for all had been interpreted multiple times as a desire to do nothing at all.

How anyone could think that he would ever advocate sitting back and doing nothing while the half the kidnapping pair who'd made all their lives hell ran around free was beyond him; he had spent years doing everything he could to find his wife and his friend, and had never even once seriously considered the possibility of giving up. He had fought a war, up until the point that they'd needed to go into hiding. He had said, multiple times, that he wanted the Lestranges dead; that he could tear them apart with his bare hands.

But he wanted them united in it. He wanted Lestrange to have no chance in hell of tearing them apart again; he wanted them standing together, planning together, doing this right. They all wanted their piece of the man, and they could get it. Together. Even Sirius had started coming around to the idea of togetherness, and then Rodolphus had shown up and blown that all to hell. Sirius was striking out on his own, and James didn't like it. He understood it, just as he'd understood Lily's need to argue, but he didn't like it. Not one bit.

Which was why Monday night found him outside Gryffindor Tower, looking for Sirius. He gave the password to the portrait (as if being "sorted" into Slytherin ever would have prevented him from getting the password into his old House, especially when his family was staying there) and stormed into the dormitory where Sirius was staying. He was pleased (as much as he could be pleased, in his current mood) to see that Sirius was there; he cared not one whit whether any of Sirius's other roommates were around. If they were a problem, he didn't think Sirius would be here.

"You," he said, unable to keep a growl out of his voice. "We're going to talk. Right now."

James was just as reluctant to let Sirius go, and therefore perfectly content to hold on to him as long as Sirius would let him. As the other Sirius had put it, he had gone through Sirius withdrawal. Hugging, wrestling, playfully shoving, sitting or lying down next to each other; that had been perfectly normal for them, because they'd never had any discomfort with being tactile. This hug might not be quite as therapeutic for James as it was for Sirius, but it was still immensely comforting nonetheless.

Ironically enough, the comment got a chuckle out of him, which was a sign of just how much his mood had improved since the moment he'd wrapped his arms around his friend. "You could always try a serenade," he said. "With a dance. Or a poem. Or flowers and chocolates... chocolates work especially well on Moony." He shifted, but only to hold Sirius more comfortably, rather than holding onto him as if he might disappear. "And I could get used to you napping in my bed again."

Sirius was relieved when James managed to make the atmosphere a little lighter. That was he needed, some way for them to start joking around again. It had been good when they had gotten back to being friends after Sirius had been sixteen. Now that they were joking again, Sirius knew that he had given that up too quickly in pursuit of Rodolphus.

He grinned against James' shoulder.

"Even I haven't forgotten how much Remus loves his chocolates," Sirius said teasingly. "Maybe it's not too late for me to buy Honeyduke's so I can just have some on hand whenever I need him to forgive me." Sirius said. He knew that it was the obvious solution, but he also knew that it was the one that he suspected Remus could never refuse -- and not from him, not now.

Something tickled at the back of his mind when James mentioned napping his bed -- he did remember that, of course. He had done this since their first year together, but he had the sensation that there was some sort of memory there that he had forgotten. A different excuse for being there every time -- which meant there had to be hundreds from sixth and seventh year that had been wiped clean.

"It always felt safer," Sirius commented with a smile, his tone only half teasing this time.

"You still remember where the passageway to Honeydukes is?" James asked, grinning too. He could hear the grin in Sirius's voice, even if he couldn't see it. "I bet you could steal a few big boxes out of the basement, that'll keep you covered on the Moony front for a while." He laughed. "And when you run out, I'm sure I can teach you a few other Moony-tricks. I've been married to him for almost eight years, y'know."

It really did feel incredible to be joking around again. This was how they'd normally coped with things going to shit, by trying to make each other laugh; sometimes liquor had been involved as well. But ever since James had accidentally pissed Sirius off by suggesting they might eventually laugh about Sirius thinking James was trying to kill him, he'd put that strategy to the side.

"Me, I'm not quite so easy," he said, amused. It was hilarious because it wasn't really true at all; he'd still believed that Sirius loved him, this whole time. "I'm high maintenance. I require a lot of Sirius cuddles to keep me happy." He chuckled, and buried his nose in Sirius's shoulder for a moment. "And you might as well just admit that the reason you nap in my bed is because you love the way I smell."

"I'm pretty sure I'm the one who discovered the passageway to Honeydukes in the first place," Sirius said with a grin. He was pretty sure that he could remember most of the time that they had spent making the map. Parts of it still seemed vague, but most of that was early on enough that it was there.

"Is there ever a time when the chocolate doesn't work?" Sirius asked, pretending to sound amazed.

"You?" Sirius asked, his growing even wider. "You, you're an idiot." He commented, tousling the back of James' hair as he did so.

"What, like dirty socks?" Sirius asked, turning his head just a bit so that his nose was practically in Sirius' ear. He did remember how distinctive everything had been when he was Padfoot though -- and he'd never been shy about sleeping as Padfoot in James' bed. He could smell everything so clearly then: the baking from James' mum that still clung to him even when he'd been at Hogwarts for a months, and whatever stupid hair product he'd been trying at the time. Always a bit too much sweat from Quidditch practices. Sometimes traces of Butterbeer.

"Lies," James shot back, teasingly. "I stuck a Potter flag in the Honeydukes passage long before you got there, buddy." And then he was laughing, burying his face further in Sirius's shoulder when he felt Sirius's hand tousling his hair.

No, he was really very easily pleased; a hug and a few jokes at his expense and he was grinning from ear to ear, warmed from his heart all the way down to the tips of his toes. "I do not smell like dirty socks," he protested. "I smell like heroism and awesomeness and freedom."

He was quiet for a moment after this declaration, his fond smile hidden in Sirius's robes. Then he tousled Sirius's hair in return, and said contentedly, "You've still got it, mate."
