Who: Fred Weasleycolour and Freddy Weasleyswap
When: This Evening
Where: The Kitchens
What: History repeats itself, a pyrotechnic extravaganza
Rating: In progress, probably pg-13

Fred was maybe a bit ambitious saying three minutes. He knew Hogwarts like the back of his hand, but it was still a decent sized castle. He had grabbed his bag and started from Gryffindor tower down to the kitchens by Hufflepuff. A passage behind a portrait here, a bit of a ride down a bannister there, and he made decent time, still minutes, maybe not the sort that could be counted on one hand.

But he had made it there first. Who knew where his twin of a different sort was. Unless she was one of the elves. Fred had hardly been there thirty seconds when the kitchen inhabitants were thrusting cakes into his arms. Fred hadn't thought of it until now, but he kind of missed these days.

It distracted him from his purpose, until he glanced over his shoulder to laugh with George that he remembered this wasn't Hogwarts, things were different, and he was different. The truth of the matter was, Fred only returned to Hogwarts once more in his life, and then he didn't leave with cakes. He didn't leave at all.

Same with the girl version of him. All the cakes in the world, whether from elves or from mum didn't make that remotely alright. But since George had left, Fred was doing his best to forget that. Only he couldn't with another him here. He looked back at the wall, shrugging his satchel onto a counter and taking a bite of one of the cakes to prepare himself for a confession that wouldn't be very fun.

"You will." Fred kind of wished he could to. "I mean, you know, the you that's back home. I keep hoping the prat'll show his face here, but I guess that'd require the Minister wanting something from us or Harry more likely, Hannah that is."

Fred let his hand fall to the side and rest on top of hers, "I was at Wheezes. George and I were finishing inventory before meeting up with Lee for some drinks and then, you know, Potterwatch." It was an easy gesture and a comforting one though for whom was to be determined.

"He's been gone about six weeks from here. I guess. It doesn't get any easier, yeah. I mean, It's like, you never have to live without them, and then suddenly, they're gone, or it's strange. And I don't know, I keep hoping he'll come back, but I guess the scientists can't tell Fred from George anymore than Mum can, yeah?"

"George'll come" Though he wasn't entirely certain he believed it. "And yours too. And then we'll show everyone what two sets of Weasley twins can do," Fred shrugged it off, it was his natures to cheer others up, albeit, sometimes in a roundabout way.

"Firewhiskey alright?"

"Hannah has a lot on her plate. For her own sake, I'll hope against it." Freddy sighed, clasping her hand around his. It felt so familiar, but his hand was much larger than Georgina's and she highly doubted he and his brother held hands. Even so, she was reluctant to let go. She felt more stabilized, focused.

"They'll never us coming," she said conspiratorially. "It almost seems unfair." The roundabout method of cheering her up was working, and only could get better with alcohol.

Nodding, she said, "Hit me."

"She pulls it through though. Wouldn't be the end of a school year if Potter didn't swoop in and save the day, right? You'd think Lockhart was right all those years ago.

"Don't feel that sorry for them though." Fred reached into his back pocket, pulling out his wand and gesturing wordlessly at his bag for the bottle he had brought. It was strong stuff, but that was about what they needed. He didn't take his hand from hers, instead dropping it down in front of an elf. He held up two fingers to indicate how many glasses he wanted. "After all, they brought us here."

Fred and George didn't often hold hands at home, not for years, though a comfortable merging of personal space or casual touch had never been unusual, even comforting. But they had here, each afraid that to look away would be to lose whatever it was they had here granting them second chances. Fred had looked away, and he had lost George. He didn't want to lose the closest thing he had to a twin.

"They say we win the War you know. And soon." Fred started, finally moving his hand to reach out and take the glasses from the eager elf. He handed one to her. As much as Hermione balked at House Elves, they really did love their jobs. "Early May. It all seems a little unreal."

"Damn hero complex," Freddy laughed. As patiently as she could she watched Fred while he got their drinks ready.

Her hand felt cold as his left hers, though her heart began to feel a little less empty. Maybe being here wouldn't be so horrible. In a weird way, she still had her twin, it was just...herself. This wasn't what she imagined duplicates to be like, but hey. This was the situation she was in, and she wasn't going to push him away.

Taking the glass, Freddy chewed her lip for a moment before nodding. "Well, thank Merlina. I'm kind of sick announcing deaths on Potterwatch." It was probably the most depressing part of working on the program. It made a difference, sure, but it also hurt. "Where'd it go down?"
