Entry tags:ch: bdh: dennis creevey, ch: heir: arayna lestrange, p: emmy, p: tiffie

Who: Dennisbdh and Araynaheir
What: School Shopping!
When: Before his evening with Marie
Where: Diagon Alley
Rating: G as G can get with Dennis involved

Dennis didn't have good days. He just had easier days. And today was one of them and because of it he had been willing to try and break free from his realm of antisocial habits. He didn't know just how it had occurred but over the weeks he had come to find that he felt strangely protective of the young Arayna, ever since she had proclaimed a desire for her family. He knew that emotion too well. And though she was the daughter of a purebloodist, a man he would have been likely enforced to terminate (had he not already have been, that was), he was trying his best to overlook that fact. Perhaps in her world Mr. Lestrange was an upstanding gentlemen. Stranger things were possible. Still, he wasn't wanting to ask much about her father. Or politics in general.

He didn't want to discover he was wrong or that he had developed fondness in the wrong person. For once, he was chosing to remain in the dark.

He had his arms together, behind his back, as he stood by the exit of the compound, eyes affixed on the alley ahead of them. It looked just like home. He wondered if they had put forth the effort to make Knockturn. Unlikely, he decided, and pushed away the thought. He didn't need to go revisiting that side street or part of his past.

Arayna had never walked through Diagon Alley without the accompaniment of at least one of her parents. Usually the preparations for the new school year was a big deal and the whole family would converge upon the Alley for a day of shopping and merriment. Arayna had always loved Hogwarts, it was after all the place that had given her an identity of her own and a reprieve from her mother.

Trips to Diagon Alley usually started at Twilfit and Tattings to alter Arayna's robes by several inches. The intimidating stature of Bellatrix and Verena not something the youngest Lestrange held in common with them. Belatedly, she wondered if the scientists would know to hem her robes. Under no circumstances would she walk about the castle in overly large billowing robes, she had a reputation to protect even if those who knew of it were not on the Compound.

Spotting Dennis up ahead a bright smile spread across the young girl's face, brightening up her features. He had become a friend, a companion who actually listened to what she had to say and seemed to respect her thoughts. "Hello Dennis," she called as she arrived beside him. "Lovely day for a shopping adventure, don't you think?"

His head turned to the side at the sound of her voice and he gave the tiniest smile of acknowledgement and greeting. A simple nod followed as he cast his eyes back out in front of him. "It is a very nice day," he responded. He had never been much for shopping but he assumed the company would be nice. And, for some reason, he didn't want her to have to gather her things alone.

It seemed wrong to him. He wasn't sure why.

"Where is it you tend to go first?" He then asked, glancing back to her, for he didn't have a routine during his youth with purchasing his supplies. In fact, he remembered being dragged by the hand by Colin, who was eager to show him everything.

For a brief moment his eyes cast down, but he was determined not to spoil the outing, so he just savored the happy memory before forcing his smile to come back. "We should look into lunch at some point," he suggested after the pause.

Arayna rocked back on her heels. As a young child there had been no place more magical then Diagon Alley. Magical in the way it had made her feel. Here was the place that was to become the precursor to the real adventure that was Hogwarts. You never knew what you might see peeking out of the shop's display on any given day or what you might over hear sitting at the Caludren. While she was not experiencing quite the same reaction, understandably with the lack of her family and friends, she was still quite excited.

"Usually mum would insist on getting my robes hemmed so I would not trip over them. After that we would just kind of wander around. Take in the sights and all that. Did you have any traditions when it came to pre-school shopping?" Her brow furrowed at his obviously forced smile, but remained silent. Through conversations with Dennis she had gathered that he had not lived the happiest of lives and wished not to pry.

"Lunch would be lovely. Let's buy our books first." She said pointing down the way. Her steps were light, all thoughts of the things that should be bothering locked tightly away. Today was a day meant for shopping and smiles, and so that is exactly what she was going to deliver.
