Ernie and OPEN
[info]erniedtmac
2014-10-11 06:50 pm UTC (link)
The night had been a great success, and Ernie was happy to hear of how much money had been raised through the raffle. He didn't regret a single ticket he'd bought as the money was for a good cause, and he was quite pleased that he'd managed to win Harry - if only they weren't going to a bloody museum! If he could, he'd see if anyone else was desperate to get out of their assigned date so that they could perhaps switch (there had to be someone interested in cauldrons and historical beards).

The music was playing so he only grabbed a quick drink, downing it in moments so that he could take to the dance floor. Now, who to dance with?

Roger looked around the room, still thoroughly amused from the nights proceedings. Winning a date with Melinda had been the best possible outcome, short of him winning a date with Marcus. Still, he'd managed to bring in a bit of money for the organisation, and had surreptitiously donated a couple of hundred Galleons more just to be on the safe side.

He grabbed a drink then spotted Ernie. Grinning, he walked over with his hands outstretched. "What's all that about Macmillan," he asked with a grin. "Taking home my wingman instead of me! You'd better be nice and gentle with him in bed," he added, his grin growing even wider. He stopped and took a sip of his drink before turning up his charm factor to eleven. "Well if I can't take you home and make you scream my name, the least I can do is dance with you, what do you say?"

Ernie turned at the voice and laughed, his cheeks flushing a little. "If I were nice and gentle with him, then neither of us would be having any fun."

There was something about Roger that just turned the usually confident and boastful Ernie into a blushing schoolboy and though he couldn't figure out what it was, he was quite enjoying it. "I think I'm up for it... if you can keep up with me," he added with a wink. "So, would you rather lead or follow?"

Roger laughed at the way the smaller man flushed slightly. "I suppose I can't really argue with that. A bit of rough and ready is good at times, though not necessarily when you're new to the whole experience," he said with a little wink. "I don't think Haz is quite up to the level of shagging Quidditch players in kilts in cupboards."

He laughed again and pulled Ernie to him. "I'll lead of course, darling," he said, taking a moment to remember where he needed to put his hands. "So how's your evening been anyway," he asked conversationally after several moments.

Haz? Ernie was momentarily confused. "Wait a minute, Harry's your wingman? I thought you were talking about Pod." He shook his head as if to clear the confusion away. "Oh, Harry's been a mate for ages now, that's all. Plus, we're stuck going to a museum - it'll be all we can do to stay awake all day."

Ernie was happy to follow, smoothly slipping his hands to where they needed to be. Growing up, he'd been taught how to lead first but had welcomed the chance to learn to follow - he could now do both quite well. Plus, he remembered his dance instructor had been very easy on the eyes. Kind of like Roger, in fact. "Not bad," Ernie replied, smiling. "Made a lot of bids and won, donated a lot of money to a good cause, and now I get to dance with a handsome quidditch player. What more could a bloke ask for? And you? You were won by the girl the papers said was dating Wood, right?"

"Of course Harry's my wingman! Not that's he's ever fulfilled any wingman duties you understand," Roger said with a huge smirk. "Maybe you'll just have to make your own fun," he suggested archly. "Snogging in hidden alcoves, handjobs in sneaky places, that sort of thing?"

"Yeah, it is great to see how much money Alicia raised tonight. I'm well chuffed for her," he said, automatically leading Ernie through the steps. "Well the handsome Quidditch player is a bit sad because the man he actually wanted to go on a date with got bought, by a girl. But other than that he's fairly good and had a great day," he said, pausing to frown slightly. "I have no idea why I sunk into the third person then, that was a bit weird. Anyway, yes I'm off to make chocolate with Mellie. It'll be amazing, we'll gossip about boys and have a tonne of fun and the paper's will no doubt have a field day and then I'll sic Pansy on them and people may die."

He rolled his eyes. "While Harry's a very fit bloke, he's my mate. Plus, I didn't figure he was into blokes, what with Ginny and all. I like to flirt, but I don't like to pressure people."

Ernie laughed at Roger's third-person talk. "Well, as long as nobody dies on my shift, I'm good. If anyone asks, I'll plead ignorance - I know nothing." He didn't want to be intrusive, but he was still curious about who it was Roger wanted as his date. "So who's the bloke? The one who got bought by a girl. Maybe he didn't have much choice in the matter and you still have a chance."

Roger smirked and quirked his eyebrow. "Oh sure he's your mat, but you do think he's fit eh? Interesting, interesting. And well, as for the whole into blokes thing I think he's what you'd call a bisexual, like me," he said, giving Ernie a wink.

"Oh come now, I'd never actually kill someone. I'd maybe make a ref disappear to the Sahara, but never kill," he said with a teasing smile before giving Ernie a considered look. "The bloke is my teammate, Marcus Flint," he said finally, nodding over to Marcus. "It's not so much of a choice thing as a he's-just-not-into-me type thing."

Vikesh and OPEN
[info]ylwrosofireland
2014-10-11 07:27 pm UTC (link)
The cause was a worthy one, and Vikesh had always been one willing to give generously of his time. He had stopped by the donations box to leave something there as well, but he hoped that his presence had brought in some funds for the Foundation. What good was being recognizable if he didn't use it for the world's benefit?

He stayed away from the spirits and took a glass of pumpkin juice, then moved to watch the dancers. He enjoyed dancing himself, but he didn't do it very often, particularly when he needed to keep his mind focused on quidditch.

Pandora hadn't really expected to win anybody, if she was going to be perfectly honest. Certainly she'd donated more than she probably should have especially considering she was trying to budget, but she'd split it between three people she rather thought she might enjoy spending some time with. That she'd won Chris made her jitter anlittle, for she couldn't precisely say how he saw her yet, and the date assigned them made her want to giggle a little.

For now, though, she set aside the worry and danced with the first gentleman who asked her, though he wasn't very good as it turned out. She thanked him for the dance regardless and decided to head to the refreshment table before trying to find another partner.

Vikesh's attention was taken away from the dancers when there was motion to his side. Not to worry, Vee, there aren't any bludgers around here to beat about. He nodded at the young woman in acknowledgement, trying his best to be polite.

"Having a nice evening?"

Dora flashed a smile at the man over a glass of something unfortunately non alcoholic, but she'd decided to refrain today. Too much social drinking made it much too easy to do more and she was trying very hard to not overdo of late. "Pretty well," she replied. "How about you? You were up for bid, right?" Her mind whirred as she went through the mentalnlist to match name to face.

He nodded. "Yes. It's for a good cause, so I'm just glad I could help." He took another sip of his drink, his attention momentarily on the dancers as he spotted two men dancing together on the other side of the room. He wasn't one to just, it simply wasn't a usual sight in his experience.

"Did you place any bids, and did you win?"

"I did. I bid on three people and got one of them. Of course, I don't know what he'll think of a spa sort of date, but we'll see how it goes. I'll enjoy it, at least." Because gods only knew she hadn't had a massage since forever and she'd probably fall in love or hate with the masseuse who got her.

"I thought about placing a bid on you -- Beater, right? -- but then I figured I should probably stick with people I at least sort of know." Next time she might branch out, though.

"With any luck, he'll take the good luck for what it is, and the company as well." He knew he was going to do his best with his own date - with any luck, since they'd be without their beaters' bats, there would be less chance of injury on the yacht.

"That's all right, no offense taken. There were enough of us to go around. And yes, I'm a beater for the Bats - it's my first year on the starting lineup. The name's Vikesh Moon, and you'd be?"

She flashed him a smile, pleased by the implied compliment though she rarely put stock in strangers' words like that.

"I'm Pandora Montgomery, it's a pleasure to meet you," she said, holding out her hand automatically. "You play a good game. I listened to the one going up against the Magpies the other day, it was exciting," she said. "Beating has always been my favorite position." She still swung a bat just to work out, at times. She tended to keep up with the Beaters of teams more than any other position.

Rich was smiling for several reasons. Not only had the turnout been good, and a fair piece of change raises for what he considered a worthy charity, but is also looked like more of the wizarding world was pulling together again. Purebloods were even sort of mingling with halfbloods and muggleborn. Might even be taken as a sign of progress.

He was also intrigued that Penny Clearwater had apparently bid on him. While he didn't have a clue about any of the novels that were the possible themes of their date, no doubt she would. He'd leave the choice to her.

Getting a drink from the bar, he wandered over to watch the dance floor. Truth be told, he was a bit of an expert dancer and quite enjoyed it. If Penny was around, he'd have to see if there were any available slots on her card. In the mean time, he would just watch what was going on.

Zacharias and OPEN
[info]unspeakableness
2014-10-12 04:28 am UTC (link)
Zacharias was, admittedly, nervous about the fact that not only had a bloke bid on him but had won him, mostly because he didn't know how his parents -- especially his father -- would react. He'd told them he couldn't attend a dinner they were planning for tonight because he'd signed up for this date raffle for charity. However, he wasn't sure if they'd understand that the dates weren't meant to be strictly romantic in nature. He hoped they would, but something in the bottom of his belly made him think they wouldn't. He bit his lip a little as he headed toward the bar, debating on what to get to drink.

Although part of him thought briefly about something strong, in the end, he ordered a butterbeer. Best not to be drunk in case his parents were lurking about, something he didn't doubt they'd be doing. After all, this could have been their chance to finally have him set up with someone. Instead, he'd been won by a man. At least he still had Mrs Capper's dance for them to look forward to. Maybe he could get them to focus on that and that, on the positive side, it meant he didn't have a date to bring to the dance, which left him open to more possibilities. "Yeah, and Carmilla Sanguina didn't really bathe in her victims' blood," he snorted to himself, taking a long pull from his drink.

Glancing around, he decided to go find a place to, perhaps, hide just in case his parents were there. He knew they wouldn't risk a scene in public, but that didn't mean they would ignore him. Silently cursing at having agreed to wearing ombre blue robes that matched his eyes instead of something that would allow him to blend in a bit more, Zacharias pushed off from the bar and began weaving through the crowd. If he were really lucky, he thought, he might also find a a hiding place that wasn't nearly so loud. He thought he felt the beginnings of a headache coming on.

"Excuse me," he said, stepping around a few people, deciding on the garden. He needed a bit of fresh air, and he hoped it wouldn't be too crowded. "Pardon me," he said, moving around someone as he reached for the door. Finally, he thought, twisting the knob and crossing the threshold. He sighed a little bit as he shut the door behind him, glad for the cool air as it hit his face. "It's too hot in there," he said to himself, moving further away from the door and the noises inside the pub.

Re: Zacharias and Harry

Harry had spent most of the auction itself hiding from Rita Skeeter, and also Andromeda who kept trying to introduce him to her gardener, despite the fact he'd already met the poor man a dozen times and he couldn't be less interested in shagging Harry. Shagging Andromeda, on the other hand, was something the gardener would quite like. He'd finally been able to breathe when he found out Ernie had "won" him, though he didn't think Ernie was any more interested in cauldron bottoms than he was. They'd make the best of it though.

He was just about to find Ernie when he spotted Rita again, and made a quick escape into the garden just before she spotted him in return. The last thing he wanted was to be questioned about his 'relationship' with the 'lucky winner' and have it explode into a full-blown gossip-column romance. So maybe he was still bitter about his supposed affair with Kingsley, even though it had been years ago. Rita never changed.

The quiet, It's too hot in there caught his attention, and he found himself agreeing without much thought. "Much nicer out here."

Zacharias tensed slightly and turned toward the noise, having really not expected to talk to anyone or to have anyone talk to him just then, even if it was just to agree about it being nicer outside than inside just then. Sure, he'd anticipated the smokers, but not, well, not to even be vaguely acknowledged. And he certainly hadn't expected it to come from Harry Potter. They may not have really interacted much since Hogwarts, but that didn't mean Zacharias had forgotten who he was (who in the wizarding world hadn't?) or their interactions. An awkwardness settled inside of him, but he kept it off his face and out of his posture.

"Yeah, it is," he said, taking a sip of his butterbeer. "I saw Rita Skeeter hanging around, so you probably want to be alone," he added, taking a couple of steps toward the door. Really, he should find out if his parents were around. And he should find Ben to see if he were happy with the date they'd won and to arrange when to hang out. "But congratulations on the date," he added. Ernie was a good man and a good person. He was sure the two of them would have fun. Or, well, he hoped, at least for Ernie's sake.

Harry rolled his eyes and shuddered at the mention of Rita Skeeter. "She's a parasite, and I'm definitely avoiding her," he agreed. "But you don't have to leave. I'm pretty sure the garden is big enough for both of us, Smith." He sighed, and leaned back against the low wall. He and Smith had never gotten along at Hogwarts, but it had been a long time since then. He didn't think they'd shared more than five words in passing in the last seven years.

"Thanks. I can't say I'm enthused about cauldron bottoms, but it'll be fun spending the day with Ernie. We'll make our own fun." He didn't remember who Zacharias had ended up with, but he remembered the date. "Your date venue should be a lot more fun. Racing brooms, right?" Harry would be the first to admit to being incredibly jealous about that, but it wouldn't be right to ask to switch without checking with Ernie first. No matter how much he'd want to.

Re: Zacharias and Harry

To be honest, he wasn't sure if he wanted to stay in the garden. They weren't friends, and Harry was never someone Zacharias particularly wanted to get to know. He wouldn't have been against it as he didn't hate him. He just never had that overwhelming need to get to know him. He was sure he was a good person, or at least not a total prat all the time, and that was enough for him.

"You might be able to find someone to switch with," he said, silently adding, but not me. "But, uh, yeah, I think it'll be fun. Passes to the Museum of Magical History could be fun, but only under the right circumstances." Like when trying to ensure you wouldn't get a second date with someone who hates history. Zacharias didn't mind history, but he was glad it wasn't the date he'd won with Ben. If he went to a museum, he preferred going alone. At least that way he could browse at his own pace and didn't have to worry about whoever he was with finding his interests boring.

"If you can't find someone to trade with, you could probably blow it off and do something else," he said with a shrug.

"Switching might be an option, but it doesn't seem sporting to blow it off altogether," Harry said, dubiously. Someone, even if it had been Percy, had put effort into coming up with the date, and Harry's sense of fair play made the idea of blowing it off distasteful or at the very least a little bit mean.

That in mind, he tried to think of a few positive things about a day at the museum. Looking on the bright side wasn't a particularly strong skill of his, but it shouldn't be impossible. "Plus there's the exhibit on wandlore which should be somewhat interesting, and the beard exhibit might be good for a laugh." Maybe it wouldn't be all bad, and the company would be nice. Suddenly determined to make the best of the situation, a day at the museum didn't seem so bad.

Zacharias and Harry
[info]unspeakableness
2014-10-28 01:00 am UTC (link)
Zacharias nodded, taking another sip of his drink, finishing it. He kept his thoughts to himself, but they mostly involved thinking about how it wasn't fair to provide a very niche date idea that only certain people would like, either. He just knew better than to voice his opinion on such things. "Wandlore could be interesting," he agreed. Beards, though? No. But wandlore... "Can't hurt to know more about a tool lots of people can take for granted." Or so he thought. After all, wands were rather important instruments wizards and witches used, but how often were they really thought about and well cared for? Or even given thought on their origins? He didn't have any interest in making wands, but he did find their history interesting.

With a little shrug, he said, "Hope you have a good time, whatever you end up doing." And he meant it, even if he wasn't a big fan of Harry's, even if he mostly meant it because he liked Ernie enough to not want things to be terrible for him. "Anyway, I'm going to get another drink," he raised the empty bottle to indicate what he meant. "Have a good night. And good luck avoiding Skeeter," he said, turning and heading back inside, thinking about getting his drink to go.
