RP: Lunch at Finnigan's
Who: Alicia and Adrian, and OPEN
What: Lunch, because Wednesday’s too long to wait
Where: Finnigan’s
When: Uhm… lunch time
Rating: SFW

Alicia was just jotting down the last comment about multi-tasking as she pulled her jacket over her shoulders and rushed out of the door of the office. Dean’s birthday party yesterday had been fun, as had the post-match celebration on Saturday night, but there had been no Adrian and she hadn’t had the proper opportunity to let him know exactly how many more goals Pride scored and how far ahead of the Falcons they were… and she actually missed his company.

Finding a seat by the bar, she pulled out her journal and scribbled a quick note to let Adrian know to get his bum in gear.

Adrian wouldn't have admitted he'd been missing Alicia the last few days, but her note about flying with the twins had considerably lifted his spirits (days dealing with the clients were his least favorite in his business). When they'd continued writing, he only seemed to miss her more and so of course had jumped at her lunch invitation.

Rushing down to try to beat her he felt his journal warm with a new message just as he opened the door to Finnigan's, cursing himself, knowing she'd beat him there. He gave her a smirk of disappointment as he slid into the seat next to her. "I swear, it's because you're so small, you can dart through the crowds a lot easier than I can," he didn't even bother to open his journal, knowing it had been her.

Leaning forward with a small smile just for her, he kissed her on the cheek in greeting, "Good to see you Spinnet."

Adrian’s smirk of disappointment was met with a bright smile of genuinely happy greeting from Alicia. Alright, perhaps there was a touch gloating in it, but mostly she was happy to see him. “Or maybe I’m just so intimidating that they simply part to let me through.” Or maybe there hadn’t actually been any people to slip by, just like it was just a couple of doors down and she didn’t have to go down any stairs. Or lock up, for that matter.

Leaning into Adrian’s kiss, she brushed one of her own to his cheek. “You too, Pucey,” she smiled and sat back up. “How was your weekend?”

He shrugged, "Getting all the summer orders set to be sold. Packaging and selling really are the absolute worst aspects of this gig, did you know?" Being delicate and writing legibly and being nice to clients... He dreaded it every couple of months when he knew he had to do it.

"Can't I just live off my family's money like Sera?" He gave her a simpering look, "I think that would be a much more fun existence," his face split into a grin. "How's the team looking this year?" He knew she'd been with them for practice and their first match, and the moment he asked he regretted it because his own team was not looking good this year after just two games.

“But if you didn’t, you’d just be a Potions Master hoarding ingredients and Potions,” Alicia reminded him. “Or working at St. Mungo’s,” she added with a smirk. If there was one thing she couldn’t imagine, it was Adrian working within the rigid frames of the hospital. At least out here, even with the packaging and selling, he could set his own hours.

“You could,” Alicia said as she looked over the board with today’s special’s, continuing nonchalantly. “Or I could keep you on retainer and you could live off my money.” Of course the nonchalance only lasted so long when she saw the grin on his face. Almost instantly, the grin was mirror on her own face, and it only grew brighter when he went right ahead and brought up this year’s Pride. “They’re amazing! Twenty-six goals. Twenty-six! They only let in fifteen, caught the Snitch and the only injury was the coach who broke his finger during the post-match pep-talk.” She smirked at Adrian. “Of course, the Falcons fifteen goals weren’t too shabby either. Thank Godric they caught the Snitch…”

"Yeah why don't we just run away and be filthy rich and never have to work another day in our lives?" He chuckled, "And you know I'd collect potions, what else would I do with my time?" Flagging down menus he quickly ordered a burger and fries and let her pick her lunch as well.

When she got going on the Pride he couldn't help his smile - he loved watching her get so worked up about the team. Really, he was a Falcons fan and always would be, but she love the Pride so much she worked for them. "Fifteen goals is perfectly respectable." There were some seasons his birds were in the bottom of the league, at least they'd won last week.

"When's the first match against each other?" He asked, knowing she'd know and being hardly able to contain his excitement. It was really the only time they cheered for the total destruction of each other's teams, but it was a lot of fun.

“Mmm, yeah,” Alicia hummed dreamily at the mental image Adrian was painting. “That would be nice. Wait.” She sat up a little straighter. “What do you mean ‘what else would you do with your time?’ You’d cater to my every need, that’s what you’d do with your time,” she grinned and ordered a bowl of Minestrone and a glass of ice water.

There were very few people Alicia would actually gloat to about the Pride’s success. Adrian was one of them, but he also knew that although she would never cheer against Portree, she would cheer for the Falcons when she was with him. “Of course fifteen goals is perfectly respectable,” she said and leaned over to nudge her shoulder playfully against his. “After all, it’s seven goals more than what was needed if they hadn’t caught the Snitch…”

Pulling out her calendar, Alicia quickly flipped through it, then turned it so Adrian could see. “We’ll be in Falmouth on 27th November, and then in Portree on 11th December. Huh, right before the twins’ birthday that Sunday…”

Adrian laughed and when their food was brought over just a moment later he threw a chip at her and nodded in agreement, "I would, willingly," his eyes catching hers in just the right light.

Swallowing he smiled again and nodded once more, the moment gone, "You're right, they would have won anyway, which I guess is all a wizard can ask, right?" He focused his attention on his meal and dug in while she looked for the match. "Well I'll be in Falmouth of course, I don't usually go to the Portree matches, but I'd take the twins if you want? For their birthday?" Adrian would never admit it, even though he knew Alicia knew without question, but he was always excited to spend time with Liam & Isla. They were like Alicia, only tinier, and even if they hadn't gotten used to him and didn't put up with his grumpiness and his hermit-ing ways like their mother did, being like her would've been enough to endear them to him.

I would, willingly. I would, willingly. Adrian’s words kept repeating in her mind as the room around them narrowed in until all she saw were his blue eyes. They could do it, and what was more; she could see them do it and them being perfectly happy doing so, though she would never expect him to just be at her beg and call…

And then the moment passed, and though Adrian’s eyes were still blue and his smile still made his handsome face light up, showing the side of him that she knew he only let a very few people truly see, he was also her best friend who didn’t date and appeared to have made a lifestyle out of that. “They would love that,” she smiled and put away her calendar again. “But wouldn’t that be around the time Sera’s having her baby? Wouldn’t you need to be on standby to leave for St. Thomas at a moment’s notice to see the little wonder?” Alicia pulled her bowl closer and hesitated a moment when the steam that wafted from the soup made her think of Christmas. Leaning down, she sniffed trying to suss out why that was, since Minestrone wasn’t usually a dish or even a smell she associated with Christmas, and again, it smelled odd. Not exactly bad, per se, but not Minestrone’y either. “Is that cloves?” she asked, sliding the bowl over to Adrian so he could take a sniff.

Adrian gave her a confused look and then sniffed, "Yeah, I think it is, I've never heard of that before." He shrugged, eating another chip. "Want some of mine instead?" And pushed his plate toward her. It wasn't every day Adrian offered to share his food, especially fried food.

At her mention of the baby though he shrugged again, "Honestly I don't know what I would do there if I went. Mother would drive me insane, Father would hide in his library, and Sera will probably have broken both of Will's legs by the time they get her to hospital. I'd probably just be in the way so I'm planning on... Well, on planning a trip after the baby is born. And even if I wasn't, I wouldn't offer to take the kids out only to have to leave them at the stadium." He gave her a cross-eyed look in jest and smiled again, "Thank you for the invitation today, by the way, I know my manners leave much to be desired, but I swear if I hadn't gotten out of the flat with a good reason, I may have gone round the bend."

“Me neither,” Alicia said hesitantly, though at least relieved that she wasn’t the only one to smell cloves in her soup. Almost reluctantly, she scooped up a spoonful and took a sip, careful not to burn her tongue, and almost immediately scrunched up her nose and shook her head. “There’s a reason we haven’t heard of it before,” she declared, and took a long quaff of her water to get the taste washed off her tongue. She was still drinking when Adrian pushed his plate towards her, and his offer had her stop drinking immediately and slowly lower the glass as she looked sceptically at him. Adrian never shared his food and it was a guarantee for following grumpiness if she ever took one of his chips without permission. Slowly a smirk spread on her lips as she reached over and took one of them. “Thanks,” she chuckled and bit off half a chip. When no noticeable grump happened she took another one and gently nudged him with her shoulder.

“I know you’d never take them out and just leave them, berk,” she grinned nudging him again, using the slight bounce from the first nudge to make the second happen. And a third. And a fourth. “Obviously, you haven’t spent much time around newborns and I know that you claim never to be unca Adi, just promise me that you won’t miss out on it completely, just because you’ve promised to take Isla and Liam to a match.” She genuinely loved Adrian for caring about her children the way he did, but she really would hate for him to miss out on the experience of meeting his first niece as soon as it was possible. Slowly, the nudging of his shoulder had turned into Alicia just kind of leaning against him. “With your manners I’m surprised you didn’t just come down to the office, you know?” There was a hint of amused embarrassment in her smirk as she looked down at the chips in front of them.

"I promise you I will not miss all the fun," he emphasized the last word, making it obvious how little fun he thought it would be. When she seemed to settle onto his shoulder he looked away to hide the small smile on his face, she did seem to fit there rather nicely.

When she made a crack about his manners he chuckled low in his chest, "But just showing up at your office means I'm just procrastinating. If you invite me out, I've got a good reason to leave." He explained, feeling like it made perfect sense.

“Good boy,” Alicia teased gently. There wasn’t a doubt in her mind that the minute Adrian saw his little niece he would fall in love with her and he would feel prouder of his sister than he ever had. That was an experience she didn’t want him to miss out on, though she also knew that that wasn’t something anyone could be convinced of without having actually tried it.

Adrian’s reason had Alicia’s smile widen, though she still didn’t look at him. “So really, you’re using me as a scapegoat,” she stated with a mock-pout. “I get to be the one to procrastinate by taking you out?” Her eyes were dancing with mirth when she looked up at him. “I really do spoil you, don’t I?”

Chuckling again, Adrian shook his head, careful not to dislodge Alicia as he was finding her weight rather comfortable on him. "I prefer to think of you as a shining moment in my day, but if you'd rather 'scapegoat' then - yes. You are my excuse. One hundred percent, I'm using you." His smile grew in it's brightness and honesty just as she looked up at him and he knew he'd been caught.

Schooling his features one more he said, "you really do, though I still haven't figured out quite why. Aren't I just that Slytherin prat who stank up your office?"

“Mm, who wouldn’t want to be a shining moment in your day?” Alicia smiled at Adrian, making no moves to move away from him. She liked this, liked the comfort of the physical contact with him and the fact that he wasn’t moving away considering they were never overly physical with each other. “Then again, ‘scapegoat’ has such nice potential for martyrdom, so it’s a matter of wanting the praise now or wait ‘til I’m dead, right?”

Looking at Adrian for a long moment, Alicia smirked slightly. “You still are,” she admitted. The thing was, he had become so much more than that Slytherin prat, even if she couldn’t put a label on exactly what that was.
