Croissants for Two
Who: Millicent and Pandora

What: Breakfast with a friend before the Big Interview

Where: Sweet Nothings, 9:00 a.m.

Rating: SFW

It was hard not to fidget. She just...had all this energy right now, and there were still about ten minutes before Dora would be here. Diagon Alley had already been middling busy, so she hadn't lingered too long: just long enough to buy some new quills and sealing wax, since she was here, and a few minutes in Flourish and Blotts to see what new titles they were carrying. None of them had piqued her interest enough to pick any up, so she'd gone out and continued on, waving at Greg through the window on her way past Weasley's. She'd turned into Monument Alley, then stopped to get her bearings, because it was a little strange, standing there in the middle of what used to be the one place she was never allowed to go when the family went shopping. Not even her brother had been permitted, and he'd been everyone's special pet. It was a little surreal, seeing it so clean and prosperous. Parents with little children heading for the park, young professionals hurrying between doors.

It was so different.

She considered one of the displays in the window at What the Book, then stepped aside as a harried-looking mother with several children tried to make her way in despite the number of parcels all of them were already carrying. Millicent wondered to herself why they hadn't sent their things on ahead with delivery owls or an elf, or Shrunk the parcels even, then moved on back toward the pâtisserie, to other, quieter shops whose customers didn't make her roll her eyes.

At two minutes to nine, she let herself into Sweet Nothings, and began considering the menu, despite knowing she wanted. Knowing what else they could offer would be good, and she'd been told this was a nice place often enough that she could foresee frequenting it. Good to know the lay of the land beforehand, as Jane would say.

She felt a brush of air to her side as the shop's clock turned to nine, and smiled. "Punctual as usual," she said in amusement, turning her head to look at Dora sidelong.

Dora made her way down Monument with her cup of salvation in hand. She'd decided earlier in the week that Richard was just lucky that so far he hadn't had to deal with pre-coffee Pandora, as she'd managed ton get up in time every day this week to drink anpartial cup before exercises commenced. She was much more human-like with it in her.

She could only imagine how much she'd dislike early morning running without it, anyway.

In deference yo the fact that the new exercise regiment still made her sore, she'd taken some time after her shower to make her hair look nice, charming some green streaks into it and donning a casual green robe of a darker shade over her other clothes, and matching her make up charms tastefully to it. Well, she thought it was nice.

She slipped into Sweet Nothings right on time, and laughed softly as Millicent turned andncommented. "You got me," she admitted. Looking down, she oopsed softly and Banished her coffee back to the workshop, knowing she'd buy more here. "How are you this morning, Millicent? You look very nice," she said genuinely. The haircut, Dora thought, suited her.

"A little like I'm playing dress-up," she said in amusement, lips turning up higher at the corners. "Between Pansy and my stepmother, I'm so utterly splendid, my mirror almost didn't recognise me." She took a step forward as the man in front of them did the same and began to place his order. "Though speaking of that, I like the green." A delicate roll of her fingers indicated the green in Dora's hair. "I haven't seen you do that in a while."

The cashier greeted them sunnily, and Mils turned to ask for a hot chocolate and a croissant, then raised an eyebrow at the woman next to her. "Still need something strong enough to take your arm off if you met it in a dark alley? Or will you have just a regular coffee?"

Pandora grinned over at her. It was nice, she thought randomly, to not be hell of a lot shorter than everyone around her for the first time in a while. "Well, you look fabulous, but you're not playing dress up. You're a grown-up just like I supposedly am." Though there were days she felt much more like a little kid.

"Thanks. I haven't felt like doing it in a while," she said. She'd always taken a particular pleasure in playing with her hair with charms, one of the few things she'd done at school that not everyone had approved of. "Been too busy and too tired, though I'm still busy and tired, I suppose." She tugged a green streak, feeling almost pretty for a moment, something she rarely let herself do.

"No, I think I'll have something with chocolate in it," she replied with a laugh. "I've already had a couple cups of 'and no one needs to die yet' today, luckily for everyone," she joked, and turned to order something with both chocolate and coffee in it as well as an eclair, which she cast covetous eyes on when she saw it.

She tilted her head toward the seats as their drinks were being made, silently asking which ones they wanted. "So, tell me about this interview," she said.

"Chocolate is rarely a bad thing," she said in amusement, though she could clearly hear in the back of her head both Cecilia and Grandmother's tongues clicking in disapproval over her sweet tooth. "Your day can't be anything but good with chocolate in your coffee and an éclair." She waggled her eyebrows teasingly, then cast a look around the shop. Nodding towards a table for two in the window, she took her order as the attendant put it on the counter, and turned to wait for Dora to do the same.

As they settled at the table, Millicent resettled her watch so she wouldn't try to smooth her hair and mess with the things she'd put in it to keep it smooth. "It's for an office manager position at International Exports," she started, tearing off a piece of her croissant and dipping it into her hot chocolate. "Richard Summerby put an advert into the Finnigan's journals a little while ago, and I owled him the other day to ask if he was still looking." She chewed a bit thoughtfully. "I've been a personal assistant long enough to feel good about keeping up with someone, but..." Her free hand rolled expressively. "I don't know much about him as a person, to be honest. Which could be good or bad, going in with few expectations."

"Mmmm, amen to that," she drawled with a grin. She waited for her order and cradled one part in each hand, eyeing the eclair with something akin to wicked glee. She'd not had one in quite a while and this one? This one looked decliiiiiicious.

Dora sat in her chair and crossed her legs comfortably, tucking her hair behind one ear as she turned her entire attention to Millicent. Her eyes unconsciously read her lips on and off, a habit she'd never lost from her childhood and which had been honed sharply during her time as a Death Eater after she'd lost the majority of the rest of her hearing to the Cruciatus. Even with her aids, she found herself doing it often.

"Oh, Richard!" Dora said after swallowing a bite of her eclair. "Oh, I wished I'd known it was with him. I work with, for, whatever, him too. I'd have talked you up earlier." She took a sip of her delightful tasting coffee. "Richard is ... hm, good people," she said, trying to think of a proper way to describe a complicated man. "He and I are a lot alike, if that helps? He's rather Slytherin for a Hufflepuff, in a good way." She nibbled on her pastry. "Give him my regards, feel free to drop my name, I'll back you up all the way."
