Journal - Percy Weasley
Today was a very intriguing day. I am very honoured to consider Minister Shacklebolt a friend of mine, and few things bring me more pride than the work I did for him in helping to bring the Ministry back to an institution that the people can rely upon - or at least put it on that path so that it may one day be such an institution. He is also a man who is very difficult to say no to. Our meeting today has left me much to ponder and consider.

[Private to Oliver]
What would you say if I told you that today I was offered an opportunity that is not given to many wizards, that isn't quite a promotion but has the feeling of one?

Also, are you still interested in having that dinner/meeting with me, yourself, and Melinda?

[Private to Penelope]
It seems you owe me dinner, though the Falcons are fortunate they weren't playing Puddlemere else the tables would surely be turned. Shall we pay up this weekend? I also wanted to pick your mind a little about something the Minister offered me today - I need some advice.

Very true, and no, there will be no killing people that I know of. It would involve my working at the Muggle Parliament with the Prime-Minister and his cabinet, as an "opportunity to learn and experience more of the Muggle world, to establish better rapport with the Muggle government, and possibly make us some powerful allies in the current administration". The most fearsome prospect would be the requirement that, while working, I would have to do everything as Muggles would - without magic.

Excellent. Please let me know when would be best for the both of you and I will ensure my calendar is cleared and/or a sitter obtained.

Well, that sounds pretty fecking cool, Perce! If anyone could do things without magic and still be a badarse, it's you. Isn't that what Kingsley did before he was Minister? I be you'll be great. I say go for it, what do you have to lose?

Sure! I'll have to check with her, but so long as I'm not in a game, I'm free and open for eating and plotting.

It is, though his role was also unofficially in part that of bodyguard which mine would not be, thank Merlin. Despite your supportive words, I'm nervous about the prospect of doing my work without magic. I would also be required to not talk about the magical world around the Muggles who don't know about our existence, as I would be working with both. What if I forget myself and create an incident? And even worse... how will my family react to the news? You know I've done my best not to announce any of my promotions since reuniting with my family - I know it's illogical but I still fear a reaction like that first one. And what of Lucy, at the Ministry I have the luxury of bringing her in to work as she's extremely well-behaved and I head up my own sub-division, but at the Parliament, I wouldn't be able to take her in with me.

I'll anxiously await further word then.

You're the most professional person I have ever met in my life, Perce. I doubt you'd ever do anything except what you're strictly allowed to do. I'm sure you'll decide what's best for you and your family. How long would the assignment be?

At least until the end of Kingsley's term in office, possibly longer if he's re-elected. This may also mean I wouldn't be able to attend any of your games when they fall on Thursdays or Fridays.

There's always magical recordings on the wireless.

I mean, whatever you think is best for your career, Percy. It sounds like an honor just to be asked.

Very true, and when I cannot, Lucy listens to them for me.

It is. Perhaps I'm overthinking this like I do everything else. I'm having dinner with Penny this weekend and we will likely hash it out even further - the advantage of being friends with a Ravenclaw is that her mind is as analytical as my own, and can sometimes see things I've overlooked. Either way, thank you, for everything. As always, I am lucky to have you by my side.

And i'll always fill you in, of course. What are friends for??

Probably. But it's good to think it all the way through too. Oh ho, rekindling old flames are you? Say no more.

Likewise, Perce. I need a man full of sense on my side.

You mean other than free quidditch tickets and occasional sitter duty?

Oliver, that isn't the way it is and you know it. That train passed ages ago, and when I set that bird free, it never came back. Oh, bloody hell, now I'm talking like an idiot. Please feel free to send your best beater my way with a bludger aimed straight for my head.

Well, I am often told I'm full of something, but sense isn't often it.

Exactly.

Well, my best beater is your younger brother, and I know he'd be all too happy to beat you about, so don't tempt me. And sure. If you say so.

If I've told you once I've told you a hundred times, ignore what Georgie says, he just says it to harass you.

And even if there were thoughts of rekindling on my part, which there are absolutely not, then it would still be for naught because it requires two participants. We both moved on long ago, and I have Lucy now. I've been on, what, five dates in the years since she was born? There simply isn't time for such things in my life.

Of course he does. On a positive note, it's been ages since he's sent me dragon dung at the office. Perhaps that would be an advantage of working with Muggles - never having to expect a prank delivery again!

Mmhmm. I have never heard those words spoken in my life. Never once. I'm very convinced.

He's growing up, Perce, aren't you proud??

You should be, I happen to be a very convincing man.

Either that or he's been planning something particularly dastardly and this is merely the calm before the storm. Remember what he did for my birthday with the quills that changed one's writing to something terribly naughty and inappropriate, and they accidentally found their way into circulation through the Ministry?

Thankfully, they've all been destroyed at least I hope they have, as have the quills. George is brilliant, I admit that, but why must he use it to vex me?

Because I'm loyal to whom I choose, I keep you honest and grounded, and I know about that thing back in school about which I've been sworn to secrecy.

I knew it!
